In today’s Politics Daily writer David Wood has a piece that is very instructive in all the complexities of the Afghan war from the American pt of view. The article is here. The thrust of the argument he makes is this: President Obama is responsible in all aspects of the decision on how to proceed from here. So he must take his time. There must be no rush to judgment.
I would only add one last thing to consider. The American people are passing judgment on the war as every week passes and it is very clear that they are deciding that the blood and treasure spent on this debacle must not be multiplied by even more blood and treasure trying to "save" what does not want to be saved.
The Afghanis do not share our world view. What they are suffering is essentially religious war for theological differences concerning the living out of Sharia that stretches back centuries. We are a side bar at best to their inter-family squabble that is being handled in typical Middle Eastern fashion. They simply kill each other. They are not Westerners and do not want to be Westerners. Can we live with that?
