In today’s Politics Daily there is a powerful piece about Max Cleland. The former senator was taken out by the Bushites in a particularly nasty race with Saxby Chambliss coming out the winner years ago. The loss of his senate seat sent him into a tailspin at that time from which he is now recovering.
His Viet Nam experience had to be reconciled emotionally for him to move forward. This is a piece you will remember for awhile.
In news reported by the Associated Press today, Al Qaeda is pretty much gone from Afghanistan; at least that is the intelligence community’s view on things. That article is here.
Ummm…errrr…..ahhh….then exactly why is it we are in Afghanistan? My God, this is one confusing and convoluted series of wars in western Asia! I am more confused now then when we first went into Afghanistan relative to our supposed reasons for being there.
Next we have another Associated Press story concerning the returning bodies of soldiers killed in a furious battle with the Taliban last weekend. That story is here.
Here is a quote from that last story. "The NATO-led force believes the attack on U.S. and Afghan troops was conducted by "local anti-Afghan forces, while local Taliban and elements of Hezb-e Islami Gulbuddin may have helped facilitate the attack." The group responsible for conducting the attack was initially reported as "Nuristani tribal militia," the ISAF said."
Now we are fighting tribal militia? I was led to believe by the Bushites, please correct me if I am wrong, that the tribal militias were on our side! I am wrong about Afghanistan again?!
Who would have thought?
