William "Bill" East  
 East, William "Bill" Funeral Services for William "Bill" East (74) of Grand Prairie will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Homestead Funeral Home in Grand Prairie. Burial will follow at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. on December 1, 2009, at the funeral home. Bill passed away November 23, 2009, in Arlington. He was born to George and Louise Donley East on February 18, 1935, in Champaign, IL. Bill married Jane Beeler on August 15, 1970, at the El Toro MCAS in California. Bill was a career Marine of 23 years, primarily serving in the Explosives Ordnance Division (EOD), before retiring in 1977. His military career took him to many places, including several stints in Korea and Japan. He served in the Vietnam War and was involved in the siege of Khe Sanh and the fall of Saigon for which he received several commendations. After his retirement, Bill worked as an explosives consultant which allowed him the chance to travel to 60 countries and every continent, including work in Kuwait after Operation Desert Storm. He was featured in the IMAX film "Fires of Kuwait" and in a National Geographic special. Bill was also a tireless volunteer for Toys for Tots and veteran’s activities. He was a member of VFW Post 8561, Elks Lodge 2114 and Moose Lodge 1818. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years, Jane East of Grand Prairie, daughters Karen Hale and husband Dan of Arlington and Andrea Phillips and husband Lance of Carrollton, brother Carl East of Michigan, and grandchildren Alex & Katie Hale and Avery & Brady Phillips, his greatest joys. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack East and sister Shirley Phillips. James Edward (Jim) Martin, Sr., 54, Clarksville, died Friday, November 27, 2009, at Gateway Medical Center.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Chapel with Rev. Dock H. Leem officiating.
Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with full military honors. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

He was born July 4, 1955 in Cayce, South Carolina, son of Louis Russell Martin and Arvel Stronaman Martin.
Mr. Martin was retired Staff Seargant with the U.S. Army and a veteran of Desert Storm, currently employed with the Letica Corp., was a member of First Baptist Church, and formerly was active in the Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include his wife Un A Chin Martin of Clarksville, son James E. (Joy) Martin of Fairbanks, AK, daughter Christine (Daniel) Chong of Lacey, WA, brother Louis Russell (Patricia) Martin, Jr., and grandchildren James E. Martin III, Jillian M. Martin, Julianna M. Martin, and Noah H. Chong.

Michael J. Rendzia, 38, of De Soto, Kan., passed away November 18, 2009, at home. Graveside services at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Fort Leavenworth Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan. Memorial contributions to the Rendzia Children’s Fund c/o Great American Bank, Box 429, De Soto, KS 66018. Michael was born Oct. 2, 1971, in Millinocket, Maine. He served in the US Army and the Army Reserves in Gardner, Kan. He was a veteran of Desert Storm. He is survived by his children, Brady and Bailey Rendzia of DeSoto; and his parents, Keith and Doreen Rendzia, his sister, Kylie Coover, and grandmother, Theresa York, all of Brownville, Maine. Maurice Edward Baumeister "Butch"
TELL CITY, Ind. — Maurice Edward "Butch" Baumeister, 56, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2009, at Perry County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rockport, Ind., on September 2, 1953, to the late Clement "Red" and Vera (Daniels) Baumeister. He was married on July 31, 1987 to Brenda Dyer, who survives.

An Army veteran, Butch served in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired from the military in 2004. He was currently working as a Correctional Sergeant at Branchville Correctional Facility. He was a member of American Legion Post #213 and he very much enjoyed being outdoors and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Baumeister of Tell City; daughters, Leisa L. Barber of Rockport and Melissa Card of Ranger, W.Va.; sons, Jason E. Baumeister of Richland, Ind., William J. "Deuce" Card of Wayne, W.Va., and Michael Card of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, Brandon Baumeister, Ian, Clinton, Blake and Trevor Barber, Caydon Adkins, Jacinda, Carsyn, J. Michael and Stevrick Card, Justice Kolley, Dylan, Kody and Layne Baumeister; and brothers, Robert, Charles and Patrick Baumeister, all of Tell City.

Local visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. CST today at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City. American Legion Post #213 will conduct a military service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. today. Additional services will take place in West Hamlin, West Virginia. Visitation will be on Tuesday at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home in West Hamlin, W.Va. Burial will take place in Warrick Cemetery in West Virginia.

Rickie Arthur (Rick) Ihms  
IHMS Rickie (Rick) Arthur Ihms, 53, of St. Martins, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at his home. He was born August 1, 1956, in St. Louis, the son of Richard and Pauline Hachmeister Ihms. He attended Salem Lutheran School in St. Louis, and was a graduate of Hazelwood High School. He attended the DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, earned a BSN from the University of Missouri in 1981, and graduated from the Barnes Hospital School of Nursing Anesthesia Program. On June 6, 1981, Rick was united in marriage in Columbia to Allyson DeGroot, who survives at their home. Rick served in the United States Army as a Captain during Desert Storm. He worked for the University of Missouri Hospital as an RN from 1979 to 1982. Rick was a CRNA at the University of Missouri Hospital from 1985 to 1991 and at the Harry S Truman Veterans Memorial Hospital from 1991 to 1993. He worked with Mid-Missouri Anesthesia Consultants in Jefferson City for 11 years, and was currently with the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, both as a CRNA. Rick was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the board of the local chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. He also was a member of the Mid-MO Model A Restorer’s Club and enjoyed working on steam engines. Other survivors include: his two daughters, Sara Burns and husband T.J. of Jefferson City, Gretchen Johnson and husband Tyler of Overland Park, Kansas; his parents, Richard and Pauline Ihms of Florissant; two sisters, Pam Keeven and husband Stan of Florissant, Phyllis Burton of Ferguson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Teresita Canete
Mrs. Teresita Canete passed away at 4:10 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital this past Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, due to complications of infection and her endometriosis cancer. All friends and relatives are invited to her funeral this Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at her church and children’s alma mater, St. Bartholomew the Apostle R.C. Church, 2032 Westfield Ave.,, Scotch Plains, N.J., at 9:30 a.m. Military burial to follow after Mass at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd., Wrightstown, N.J. Teresita was born in Cebu, Philippines, as one of six children whose father was a local government official. She graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in 1962, Southern Island Nursing School of Cebu in 1967 and obtained her bachelor’s of science in nursing at the Philippine Women’s University of Manila in 1968. She moved to New York City in 1971 and obtained her master’s in nursing at New York University in 1983. She moved to New Jersey in 1978. Prior to that, she worked as a nurse at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City, but moved to the Veterans Administration in Lyons, N.J. She progressed from being a nurse to a nurse manager and attained the highest nursing credential as a board-certified nursing administrator by the time she retired in 2006. During this time, she also served her country for 21 years and retired in 2005 with the rank of major in the United States Army Reserve. Her deployments included numerous visits to Germany in assisting soldiers returning from the war in Kosovo. During her last three years of chemotherapy, Mrs. Canete elected to keep her illness private in order to focus on fulfilling her lifelong dreams of travel. During this time, she visited the Parthenon of Greece, the Panama Canal, Machu Picchu of Peru, the statue of Cristo Redentor in Brazil, the Great Wall of China, the Kremlin of Russia, the Taj Mahal of India, the Hagia Sophia of Turkey, Ayutthaya of Thailand, Ankor Wat of Cambodia, Petra of Jordan, the Wailing of Wall of Jerusalem and the Great Pyramids and Nile River of Egypt. She was an avid reader of all literature and emulated the motto of Jack Kerouac that Life without travel around the world is only half living. Teresita is survived by her husband, Lt. Colonel (retired) Bernardo Canete, a veteran of both Operation Desert Storm and the Iraqi War, who now works as a clinician in a New Jersey Crisis Center. She was an incredibly devoted mother to her two children, focusing much of her energy on their education. Rachelle Canete, her youngest daughter, graduated high school from Mount Saint Mary’s Academy, obtained a B.S. from Fordham University and obtained her master’s in psychology at Catholic University prior to continuing her current work as a social worker in the Division of Youth and Family Services of New Jersey. Rodney Canete, her eldest son, graduated high school from St. Joseph’s High School of Metuchen and obtained a B.A. in English Literature with a honors in creative writing at Brown University prior to obtaining his M.D. at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Camden Program. He completed five years of training in pediatrics, child psychiatry and adult psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital and an additional year of forensic psychiatry, training at Bellevue/New York University, where he is now an attending clinical psychiatrist in the forensic psychiatry ward. She is also survived by a host of wonderful family, both in America and in the Philippines, including her sister, Evangeline Feliciano, with her husband and two children. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for St. Alphonsus High School and Velez College of Nursing for indigent students meriting scholarship. James Matthew Sandefur
James Matthew Sandefur ABINGDON, Va. James Matthew Sandefur, age 52, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn. Jim had many accomplishments in his lifetime. He served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital coreman, and has served all around the world including Operation Desert Storm and he achieved the rank of First Class Petty Officer. Jim had an associates degree in arts and science, an honorable discharge from the Navy, he was a Masonic Brother at the York Lodge No.12 in Abingdon, Va., a journeyman electrician and a licensed practical nurse. He was formerly employed at the Northeast Correctional Complex in Mountain City, Tenn., where he was loved and respected by many. He was preceded in death by his father Samuel Matthew Sandefur Jr. and his mother Virginia Bernice Groggs. Survivors include his three children; James Sandefur and his wife, Stacie of Abingdon, Va., Amy Shumate and her husband, Sam of Bristol Virginia, Jacob Sandefur of Bristol Virginia.; one brother, Tommy Sandefur and his wife, Trish of Bristol Virginia. He had two grandchildren, Lance and Trevor Sandefur; and his nephew, Joey Sandefur; the mother of his children, Judy Rock. Jim was a well-liked and respected man. To know him was to love him and he will never be forgotten. The funeral services for Mr. James Sandefur will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the Pine Hill Church with Rev. Scott Price officiating, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Bristol V.F.W. Honor Guard. Edward Burnett Brown, III, 58, Clarksville, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday at McReynolds-Nave and Larson Funeral Chapel.
Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with full military honors. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. till the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home at the funeral home.
The remains are to be cremated.

He was born May 20, 1951 son of Edward Brown II and Lillian Stewart Brown.
Mr. Brown was retired from the United States Army serving in Vietnam, Granada and Desert Storm. He was also an LPN and former owner of Better Health Services Company.
He is survived by his wife Nenita S. Brown; children Edward "Bee" Brown IV, Kenesha J. Brown, Stacy D. Gerald F. Cooper
MURRELLS INLET | Gerald F. Cooper died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at MUSC in Charleston.

Jerry was born in Spartanburg on December 11, 1947. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant after serving 24 years. He served in the Gulf War during Desert Storm, and was a member of the local VFW Post No. 10420 in Murrells Inlet. He never met a stranger, and leaves behind many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Cooper of Murrells Inlet; his parents, Francis and Doris Cooper of Spartanburg; two brothers, Terrel (Mary) Cooper of Riverside, Ala., and Curtis (Sheri) Cooper of Boiling Springs; three daughters, Renee (Tony) Lozano of Grand Junction, Colo., Cathy (Bill) Payne of Orlando, Fla., and Cheryl Cooper of Summerville; two grandsons, Tillman and Nicholas Lozano of Grand Junction, Colo.; and one granddaughter, Alexandra Lozano of Grand Junction, Colo.

Memorial services will be in Spartanburg at a later date.

 

Derrick Andre Mathis 
Derrick Andre Mathis – SAVANNAH – Derrick Andre Mathis had his transition on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the home of his mother. Mr. Mathis was a 1983 graduate of A. E. Beach High School and he attended Savannah Technical College. Derrick served his country in the U. S. Army. He attained the rank of Sergeant. He participated in Operation Desert Storm where he received numerous accommodations and medals. Mr. Mathis was employed with Neal Blunn, Daniel Lumber and Thunderbolt Elementary School. Until his illness, he was employed as a truck driver with Pepsi Cola and Acme Trucking Companies. A daughter, Jessica Alicia Mathis, preceded him in death. Shane Price, 40, passed away after recently moving to Savannah, GA, from Union St., Schenectady, NY. He resided in New York for the past 20 years. He held several jobs in and around Schenectady as well as serving in the Army during Desert Storm, coming home with two Bronze Stars. He is loved and will missed by many. He is survived by his daughter, Shawnna Price of Broadalbin, NY; his closest companion, Barbara Alexson of Bushnell, FL; father, Henry Price of Summerville, SC; brothers, Scott and Steve Price of Johnstown New York and Savannah, GA. Mont N. Richardson PORTSMOUTH – Mont Norman Richardson, 78, of Chowan Drive, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 in Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. A native of Littleton, N.C., he was a retired master sergeant from the U.S. Army after 38 years. He served in the Korean, Vietnam and Desert Storm wars. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Beatriz (Betty) Richardson; two sisters, Alice Harris (Mason) and Joyce Daughtry (George), all of Portsmouth; two brothers, Ruben Richardson (Mable) of New Jersey and William Richardson (Betty) of Littleton, N.C. COLUMBIA — James “Jim” Allen Robinson, 56, husband of Nan Gibson Robinson of Columbia, SC, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at his home in Columbia, SC. The relatives and friends of Jim Robinson are invited to attend a celebration of his life Monday, November 30, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
 
Jim was born on September 19, 1953, in Arlington, VA, son of Fred and Grace Robinson. He attended school at Bethpage, TN, and at Howard and Vena Stuart Schools at Gallatin, TN. He attended Moultrie High School in Mt. Pleasant, SC. He graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in accounting and business administration. He was a senior auditor for the U.S. Credit Union Administration and worked out of Columbia, SC.
 
James joined the U.S. Army when he was 17 years old and received basic training at Fort Jackson, SC. He was in the 3rd Infantry “Old Guard” Regiment at Fort Meyer, VA, and served a tour in Germany. He was on active duty for seven years and in the reserves afterward. Recalled to active duty during the Desert Storm crisis, he served in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East during the Gulf War. He retired from the military after 25 years of service.
 
Jim first married Julie Ames on June 29, 1974, in Glasgow, MT. They had three sons, Jason, born in Bremerhaven, Germany; James “Jamey,” born in Columbia, SC, and Jacob, born in Columbia, SC. On May 23, 1998, Jim married Nan Gibson, and they have two daughters, Carrie, age 8, and Anya, age 6.
 
In addition to his wife, Nan, and his children, Jim is survived by his parents, Fred and Grace Robinson of Mount Pleasant, SC; and two brothers, Robert and Morgan Robinson of Mount Pleasant, SC.

TED SCOTTORN 
 Ted Frink Scottorn 1950 ~ 2009 Ted Frink Scottorn, age 59, passed away peacefully with his brother and close friend by his side, Nov. 18, 2009, in Provo, UT from complications of COPD and Emphyzema.Ted was born April 24, 1950, to Elizabeth Lee and John L. (Jack) Scottorn in Fillmore, UT, where he called home for most of his life. Ted joined the Navy in 1970 and was so proud for the opportunity to serve his country and felt like he earned the name "Ole Sailor." He toured many places including Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Hawaii, Guam, and Singapore along with many others. His last tour was in 1991 where he served in Desert Storm in the Cargo Handling Battalion as a First Class Boatsman Mate. Ted retired from the Navy in 1997 with an Honorable Discharge and received various honors and awards. Ted made many friends not only in the Navy and local Cafes but every where he went. Some of his special friends that loved and cared for him so much he made the past two years of his life at the Victorian House Assisted Living in Levan. Although it was hard for Ted to give up his freedom and past life style, Ted truly made a change that he was proud of and wanted everyone to recognize. Ted truly showed love and compassion to those that he was around and was truly a man of "Service" and will be missed by all that knew him. Ted is survived by three brothers, Jack L. Scottorn of Sierra Vista, AZ; David M. Scottorn of Green Brier, TN; and Thomas K. Scottorn of Fillmore, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister-in-law Tina Scottorn and a brother who died at birth. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov 25, 2009, at the Fillmore City Cemetery. At Ted’s request there will be no viewing. Interment will be in the Fillmore City Cemetery with Military Honors under the direction of Olpin Funeral Home. WHEELER, Danna 48, of Brandon passed away Nov. 19, 2009. She was active duty with the U.S. Air Force during Desert Storm. She enjoyed motor-cycle touring, being outdoors, and gardening. Brian M. Patton, 37, of Nanticoke, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, while serving with the Department of the Navy in Kuwait. Born in June 12, 1972, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Robert and Janet Makarczyk Patton. He was a graduate of Stockton High School, Stockton, Ill., and held an associate’s degree in criminal justice and a bachelor’s degree in finance from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Navy during Operation Desert Storm aboard the USS Camden. He then served in the Air Force Reserves before returning to the U.S. Navy, in 2007, where he attained the rank of Master at Arms, Second Class. He was employed as a corrections officer, first class, by the State Correctional Institution, Dallas. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Stanley P. Makarczyk II and Edith Makarczyk Kelley; and an uncle, Dennis Makarczyk. He is survived by his wife of nine years, Amy Beth Hynoski Patton; sons Brian James Patton, Nicholas Patton and stepson Tyler Kozlofski; brothers, Robert Patton and Scott Patton; as well as aunts; uncles and cousins. Viewing will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in the gymnasium of the Greater Nanticoke Area High School. Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Saturday from the Greater Nanticoke Area High School with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. from Saint Adalbert’s Roman Catholic Church, Glen Lyon. Interment will be in the Parrish Cemetery, Newport Township. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the Brian M. Patton Memorial Fund in care of PNC Bank. Mark Francis Boyle
Santa Fe, N.M. – Mark Francis Boyle, formerly of Waterloo, born Nov. 9, 1957, died Nov. 13, 2009, at home in Santa Fe, N.M., with his mother and stepfather at his side, following a heroic battle with cancer.
He was a 20-year Navy veteran and lifetime member of the VFW. A 2004 graduate of UNM, he spent the last several years following his passion for archeology in the desert southwest. He was a loving son and brother, with a penchant for humor and deep concern for the suffering of others. He is sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mark is survived by his father, Richard F. Boyle and stepmother, Judi of Findlay, Ohio; his mother, Ann (Manning Boyle) Brownrigg and stepfather, Joseph of Santa Fe, N.M.; his sister, Rebecca Flowers (Wesley) of Salt Lake City, Utah; and brothers, Gregory of Findlay, Ohio, John (Sheree) of Glendora, Calif., Andrew (Donna) of Southport, N.C., Bruce (Anne) of Great Mills, Md., Terence (Renee) of Indio, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and a multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life for Mark was offered at his home on Nov. 18, 2009. On June 19, 2010, there will be a memorial Mass and burial in St. Mary’s in Waterloo, followed by a gathering of family and friends at the VFW, to remember and celebrate Mark’s life.
