The Associated Press has reported just moments ago that as of last evening Iran has siezed Oil Well Number 4 inside of what is a disputed Iraqi border between Iran and Iraq resulting from their disastrous war of the 1980s.
And now it begins. Stand by. This cannot be good and brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, "the war in Iraq’.
One can only hope that we dislodge ourselves from any responsibility to respond here. The sooner we get out of there, the better. The story entitled Iraqi official: Iranians seized Iraqi oil well is short but I am sure that there will be more to follow quickly.
Frankly I am surprised that it has taken this long for Iran to muscle-in on what it must perceive as Iraqi weakness since the fall of Sadam Hussein. If this escalates to live-fire exchanges inside of Iraq virtually anything could happen. And of course, there will be those in our country screaming for us to respond with force. It is always that way, isn’t it?
