In the Washington Post tonight in an article entitled U.S. military investigates allegations of detainee abuse in Afghanistan we find out that last year sometime we took two teenagers in Afghanistan, locked them into one of these apparently endless number of CIA prisons overseas and beat the living hell out of them. Then we routinely abused them. We suspected them of having Taliban ties. I am quite sure that they did.
Now everybody listen to me. Listen closely. I am from an old Fenian family with ties to the IRA. I am speaking from experience here. EVERYONE in Ireland from roughly 1912 to about 2006 who had ever been rousted by the British government for anything had IRA sympathies. EVERYBODY. That is millions of people. The same holds true for Taliban sympathizers. That is also millions of people.
Do we get it now? Are we going to arrest and beat all of them? We need to grow a brain. There are not enough prisons on the Earth to incarcerate the numbers of people who have sympathies for the Taliban. That is how underground armies work. They have undying support from the people. Always.
