The Truth About the Deficit – New York Times Editorial Board

The New York Times is running an editorial this morning showing a chronology of just how the country got into the fiscal mess it is now within and what it must do to get out.  It is worth reading.  The piece is entitled The Truth About the Deficit .

What is so unnerving about this entire subject is that huge swaths of our political landscape deliberately, consistently and systematically deny the reality of how we got here.

We spent all of our tax money that Clinton had saved for us and then refused to tax the rich.  In fact, we cut their taxes and then spent all of the money we had on hand. Then we blamed the defecit all on Clinton and his cronies!

What is so frightening about this is the millions of Americans who refuse to see the truth, who believes the lies.  What is wrong with us that we cannot even agree on basic facts about who spent our money?

We are truly schizophrenic on this subject.
