Christian Web News – According to research published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine finds, what veterans know, U.S. soldiers with post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have more physical problems than vets who do not have mental health issues.
The effect appears more pronounced in women.
Researchers looked at the data on over 90,000 U.S. veterans for the study. Women with PTSD had a median of seven physical ailments, compared with a mid-point of 4.5 for those without mental health problems. The most common complaints of the women were headache, lower back issues, headache and leg-related joint problems.
Men with PTSD had median of five physical ailments, compared with four for men without mental health issues.
Based upon the results, researchers called for the VA to better align the services to the special needs of veterans who suffer PTSD.
