ITALY IS DOWN AND TO THE LEFT SOMEWHERE, YOU CAN’T MISS IT
By Gordon Duff STAFF WRITER/Senior Editor
I am including one photo from Switzerland. I have a couple of good friends there, one a Vietnam veteran who has been hiding out there from the law for a long time. When I saw him last, I had to tell him that there was an extradition treaty between the US and Switzerland. He told me he was “misinformed.” There is a lot of that going around nowadays. Switzerland does have McDonalds, I have eaten in a couple of them. One is about 60 miles north of the next photo which was taken through the windshield of my friend Peter’s Volkswagen that I was driving.
There are more “lazy tourist” windshield photographs but this was the first one with decent light and no rain. The run to Switzerland, though the mountains is surprisingly long with lots of Alps inside Italy once you cross the border.
Switzerland, nearing the Italian frontier...
I had dropped my friend George off in Austria the week before and was heading back to Athens, eventually anyway. From Italy, that’s a boat ride, something we can cover in another segment. Pulling in to Camp Ederle outside Vicenza, Italy, I unloaded the car, checked out the Commissary and headed back out the gate to Verona, a short drive away. Verona, one of the world’s most beautiful cities, has fair pizza, not by American standards, of course, but, hell, what do Italians know.
Just inside the city walls, across from that Roman thing...
Evening in Verona is pretty amazing, twisting streets, towers, the moon glistening on the river. There are 500 shoe stores in Verona. Did you know that?
Safe in Verona on the night the zombies are bowlingEvThe Roman thing, across from the other stuff
Night in Verona
