Dishonoring the Medal of Honor

In Dishonoring the Medal of Honor by Patt Morrison an opinion piece in LA Times, once again it was proven that while some people are priceless, jerks are a dime a dozen. Nothing rare about being a jerk at all.

Now we have the insulting ignorance -– or ignorant insult -– of this other supposed man of God who is denouncing the awarding of the nation’s highest military honor, the Medal of Honor, to Army Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta for saving his fellow soldiers’ lives in Afghanistan, as having “feminized” the award. “When,” opined this “issues analyst,” Bryan Fischer, “are we going to start awarding the Medal of Honor once again for soldiers who kill people and break things so our families can sleep safely at night?”

Dishonoring the Medal of Honor

Yet there is something very rare about being chosen for the Medal of Honor.
TOTALS

3,464 awards with 622 posthumously
2,359 went to the Army, 747 to the Navy, 297 to the Marines, 42 to the Army Corps, 1 to the Coast Guard and 18 to the AirForce.

Home of Heroes

But there may be one more added soon.

Former Marine in line for the Medal of Honor
By William Cole

A former Hawaii Marine may be on his way to becoming just the second living service member since the Vietnam War to receive the Medal of Honor.

Dakota Meyer ran through intense gunfire in a three-sided ambush in Afghanistan in 2009 in an attempt to rescue three fellow Marines and a Navy corpsman who were pinned down, according to reports.

He had been wounded by shrapnel in the elbow on two previous attempts to rescue the Americans using an armored vehicle that was repelled both times by bullets and rocket-propelled grenades.

Just before he retired, Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Conway recommended Meyer for the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for valor, CNN reported.

You really have to wonder what is wrong with some people when they feel it is necessary to go after some heroes in this country. How is it suddenly a bad thing to save lives in combat? Read most of the accounts surrounding the reasons the Medal of Honor was given and know that most of it had to do with saving the lives of their brothers.
