Accountability

The executive and legislative branches of governement continues to make personnel decisions for the U.S. Mililatary. Recently – the 111th Congress repealed the federal law barring homsexuals from serving in the military. President Obama signed the legislation.

The “event” took place during the last few days of the 11th Congress. (I do not believe the House of Represenatives in 112th Congress would have repealed the law.) The military will now implement the law and the order of their Commander in Chief. Within our system of government – the military answers to civilians. Seldom (in recent history) is military neccessity a consideration of civilians. The military must fight wars with the tools and policy provided by civilians.

Fortunately, the military is staffed to a large extent by a professional officer and NCO Corp that are experts at implementing national policy.

There is a “HOWEVER”. The recent destruction of a long serving Naval Officers career – so soon after the repeal of President Clinton’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy can not be anything other than a loud message to the troops. This officer is the first to be destroyed to send a message to the troops.

There will be many more. Facts include a tired military – fighting wars without anything close to a national committment in resources and personnel needed to win – combined with enforced soical engineering is very tragic. Have faith folks, our military structure will survive this latest moral attack on it by a very liberal political party and its many militant supporters.

The cost? Well, it will be many good folks dediciated to the United States of America. Captain Honor is the first. He will not be the last. How far back will the militants go to hang officers and NCO’s on comments and actions they have made in the past? The question will be answered only over time. We can not as citizens know the cost militants will exact on our military. People that have never spent a night staring into the dark over a machine gun will continue to abuse our troops.
