Los Angeles, CA – The New Directions, Inc. Board of Directors has elected Stephanie Stone as its newest member.  Stone, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, is the first female veteran to serve on the Board.  “At a time when there are more women than ever serving our nation in uniform, and our own Women’s Program is growing, we welcome the perspective that Stephanie will bring to our deliberations,” noted New Directions Board Chairman Chuck Kahn.  “She has been a leader in the veterans’ community for some time and currently chairs the Board of the Los Angeles County Veteran Advisory Commission, the first woman to do so.”

Stephanie Stone is an independent consultant specializing in communications strategy, planning and training for both corporate and nonprofit healthcare clients.  During her service as a U.S. Navy hospital corpsman, Stone earned a B.S. in health care management from the University of Southern Illinois.  Subsequently she was awarded the MPA from the University of San Francisco, followed by a Post Graduate Fellowship in Public Affairs at the Coro Foundation.  Stone worked for Coro for several years, rising through the ranks to the post of Vice President of Programs and Outreach.  In addition to her role with the Los Angeles County Veterans Advisory Commission, Stone serves on the Board of the Coro National Alumni Association, as well as numerous V.A. healthcare committees, such as Veterans Integrated Service Network 22 (VISN 22) Patient Centered Care Council which encompasses Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Diego, Loma Linda and Las Vegas VA Health Care Systems.  Stone has served New Directions since June 2010 as a member of the New Directions Veterans Advisory Committee, on which she will continue.

“I am looking forward to deepening my service to veterans in treatment at New Directions, and am delighted that the Board has chosen me for this opportunity,” she said.  Stone lives in her hometown of San Pedro with her son Sean, who attends Pasadena City College.  Her daughter Katie is currently a freshman at UC Santa Cruz.
