7.   The Who’s Who Of Upcoming Cabinet Appointments.  AOL Government  “While President Obama prepares to tackle the looming fiscal showdown with Congress and fine tune his policy objectives for his second term, he must also prepare to retool his Cabinet and his core White House team.” Wexler & Walker Public Policy Associates, a “public policy and lobbying firm has been following the revolving doors of Washington since” 1981, “assembled a list some of the most likely candidates to keep an eye on.” The list says Lt. 8.   Homeless Veterans Get Help At Fort Worth Fair. Fort Worth (TX) Star-Telegram  “The US Department of Veterans Affairs is committed to its goal of ending chronic homelessness for veterans, and an event held Wednesday in Fort Worth is the kind of project that can help make it happen…said” Dr. Tommy Sowers, assistant secretary for VA’s office of public and intergovernmental affairs in Washington DC. Sowers, who “visited the Cowtown Homeless Veteran Stand Down Wednesday,” said, “No veteran who fought for their country should have to fight for a roof over their head.” After noting that in 2009, President Obama and VA Secretary Eric Shinseki announced that the Federal Government has a goal to end veteran homelessness by 2015, the Star-Telegram adds, “So far, efforts have moved about 40,000 veterans off the streets, bringing the estimated number of homeless veterans down to about 65,000, Sowers said.”
 
9.   Healing Through Music: Three Alabama Veterans Cope By Forming The Hellmand Project Band. Birmingham (AL) News  Allen Morgan, Jason Hallman, and Joe Gillentine, three patients at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Tuscaloosa, have formed a band in the hopes of inspiring others. Meanwhile, a “YouTube channel called ‘Bands of Brothers’ follows 12 recent veterans” with post-traumatic stress disorder “who form three bands.” As for The Hellmand Project, the band formed at the Tuscaloosa VA, veterans “often thank” its members “for using lyrics to say what so many soldiers can’t articulate as they recover from the mental wounds of war.”
 
10.  Nine Veterans Complete 12-Month Program. Santa Maria (CA) Times Veteran Ray Alarcio, who had post-traumatic stress disorder, “has come out of the dark, both literally and figuratively.” The Times adds, “After extensive treatment in Los Angeles through Veterans Affairs, Alarcio says his life has been saved. He graduated Wednesday from Veterans Court in Santa Maria along with eight other military veterans who completed a 12-month program.”
