Whether it is a new cartridge or a refilled one, errors can still arise. There are different reasons why your printer may display an error sign. Before you jump to the conclusion to replace your cartridge, you need to realize that there could be other options. There are a variety of reasons why there can be an error with your cartridges. The first thing you need to take care of it is whether the cartridge is compatible with your printer. To get the best deals on cartridges check out cartridgediscount.co.uk. And, don’t forget to check for compatibility. Once that is sorted and you still have incompatibility issue, it could be due to the following reasons:
Insertion problem:
If the cartridge is not properly inserted into the printer, incompatibility errors may be caused. In such a case first you must open the cartridge access door. Check whether the color icon on the carriage slot matches the icon labeled on the cartridge. Measure the level of the top of the cartridges for any irregularity. If any of them are not properly seated, adjust them correctly. If the cartridge is not going in, remove it and check it properly. Now reinsert it into the carriage carefully. Ensure you insert them correctly, with the nozzle and contacts facing down. In case the problem persists, the cartridge is flawed and you require a replacement.
Check for clogging
Even after correct insertion, if there is incompatibility issues, check the vent area. The vent area is at the top of the cartridge. Remove the cartridges and check to see of any vent is clogged. You can do this by gently inserting a pin into it. After clearing it out, reinsert them back to see if the problem is overcome.
Cleaning
Always clean each cartridge one at a time. Remove a cartridge from the carriage slot carefully and hold it by its sides. Take a foam-rubber swab or a lint free cloth dipped in distilled water. After squeezing any extra water, clean only the copper coloured contacts. Let it dry for about 5 -10 minutes. Now repeat this step for all contacts in the carriage and let it dry. Do this for all the cartridges and carefully reinsert them once all contacts are dry.
Restart
Press the power button to turn the printer off. Wait for a couple of minutes and turn the printer on again. Now check to see if errors are resolved.
Replace
If all the above inspections are fine and the problem of incompatibility still exists, maybe there is an error with the cartridge and you need a replacement.
Precautions:
Some things that you must keep in mind are:

  • Never use tap water for cleaning purposes. It contains contaminants and can do more harm than good.
  • For all new cartridges remove any protective tape from the nozzles.
  • Use lint free cloth for cleaning since they will not leave fibres.
  • Don’t touch the nozzles of the cartridges. The cartridge may get damaged.

Don’t keep any cartridge outside the carriage for longer than 30 minutes. It can cause the ink to and the nozzles to dry up.
