Christmas Day and a State of Emergency

Fellow Veterans and Friends of Veterans

For many Americans, Christmas day is a special occasion spent with family members in the comfort of a safe home indulging in a great feast after opening gifts.

For tens of thousands of war-injured and impoverished Veterans in Los Angeles, Christmas is just another day that is spent alone, homeless and hungry, like this photo yesterday outside the largest VA in the nation … a silent cry for help.

On November 14, 2012, the Old Veterans Guard sent President Barack Obama a letter requesting that he declare Los Angeles a “State of Emergency” for homeless Veterans and that his Administration drop its opposition to the lawsuit against the VA’s misappropriation of Veterans land. See Attachment. We’re still waiting for a direct response from the President, as well as from Congressman Henry Waxman, whose 33rd Congressional District oversees the Los Angeles National Veterans Home.Instead of appropriating Federal funding and providing immediate Humanitarian Relief for homeless Veterans in Los Angeles, the Obama Administration not only spent taxpayer money to fight the lawsuit that would bring housing and justice for these homeless Veterans, but his Administration Appealed a Federal Judgment that declared the VA had indeed entered into unlawful use of Veterans land for the benefit of non-Veteran entities.
The Obama Administration continues to squander taxpayer money defending the bad guys while leaving the good guys to fend for themselves on the dangerous streets of Los Angeles.
If you believe that President Obama and VA Secretary Shinseki will honor their promise to “end Veteran homelessness by 2015,” then you need to contact the local VA bureaucrats because they have some prime ocean-front real estate in the Mojave Desert that they are anxiously waiting to sell you.
This is a call to action! Stand up for Truth and Justice and join our 302nd consecutive Sunday Rally to “Save Our Veterans Land” and “Bring Our Homeless Veterans HOME.”
Please read the attachment and support the Emergency Homeless Veteran Humanitarian Relief Project.
God Bless America and the Veterans Revolution!
Note: Three months after our November 14, 2012 letter was sent to President Obama, a form letter was sent back that mentioned nothing about our request for a State-of-Emergency, dropping the opposition to the lawsuit, etc.
