Securing a business does not always mean having 24/7 guards or loss protection employees at every entrance. Modern companies need to have a blend of preventative programs, local security hardware, and digital security software to keep their employees, their assets, and their clients safe. No matter the type or size of the company, every business owners should consider these five security standards.

1. Employee Training

According to a 2014 poll by EMPLOYER, 27 percent of small businesses do not currently have safety and security training. This is not only dangerous for the employees and clientele, this can also wreak havoc on one’s insurance expenses and every company should have some plan for safety and security training in place before opening their doors.

2. SSL Certificates

Moving past the physical security of the company’s assets and employees, owners are going to need to think about cyber security. There is almost no better way to protect a website and its visitors than with an SSL certificate. These can generally be purchased by the month, the year, or in five year packages and will form an encrypted connection between a website and its visitors. This is an important step for any site that has customers input information, asks for emails, requires a login, or makes sales online.

3. CCTV

CCTV systems have been popular for quite some time due to their bare minimum maintenance and service costs as well as their ease of installation. A CCTV system can be installed by companies like Arpel Security Systems in as little as a day and police are more apt to respond to a B and E if it has been verified by a live feed. This is just another security step that could reduce insurance costs.

4. Access Control

Access control is a mandatory security step for any company, but the needs of every single business are going to change. Business owners must work with an experienced commercial security specialist that will take the time to understand the security shortcomings of the company and what type of access control system will suit them best.

5. Protected Electronics

The theft or hacking of business hardware can be devastating for a company and is not just a problem for larger businesses. All devices that house company information, including the smartphones of employees if they use them for company business, should have pin protection, theft location software, and the cookies should be deleted regularly.
You don’t deserve to have your hard work go down the drain if a criminal attempts to steal or vandalize your company’s assets or data. These few proactive steps should be implemented as soon as possible and be a part every company’s security infrastructure.
