Volkswagen Polo Facelift with the New Technology in Automation

The Volkswagen Polo is the most popular vehicle from the Volkswagen India Private Limited. The hatchback Polo launched in 2009 has been refreshed and re-launched in July 2014.  Presently there are 4 petrol and 4 diesel variants for the car priced Rupees 5.33 to 8.48 lakh. The 1.2 GT TSI automatic variant is priced Rupees 8.48 lakh.
Exterior :

The Polo comes in colours of night blue, carbon steel, copper orange, reflex silver, flash red and candy white. The Polo Facelift has come out with cosmetic touches on the exterior. A new grille and a redesigned bumper with a chrome strip, new double barrel type headlight fittings and new fog lamps are the main features at the front. At the rear there is a new bumper with integrated number plate and reflectors. Top variants have new 10 spoke 15” alloy wheels and lower ones new wheel covers on R14 steel wheels.

Interior :

The cabin of the Polo Facelift has standard features like 2 air bags, an engine immobiliser, child lock and central lock facilities, a manual AC, power steering with tilt and telescopic steering column and body coloured internally operated ORVMs. Top variants have an automatic AC, power windows, ABS, rear wiper and defogger, electric body coloured ORVMs and a 2 Din music system with Bluetooth connectivity for telephony and audio controls. A more detailed multi information display, a voice command system and a flat base 3 spoke steering wheel with audio controls are the new features incorporated.
Variants :

The petrol variants of the Polo use 1.2 litre naturally aspirated engines tuned to 75 bhp and 103 bhp respectively for 1.2 MPI and 1.2 GT TSI variants. The 1.5 litre turbocharged diesel engines are tuned to 89 bhp with 230 NM torque or 104 bhp with 250 NM torque. The petrol variants give a mileage of 16.47 kmpl. The Polo diesel variant 1.5 TDI has a fuel efficiency of 20.14 kmpl and the 1.5 litre GT TDI variant 19.91 kmpl. The 1.2 GT TSI variant has a 7 speed automatic transmission. All others have 5 speed manual transmissions.

Engine :

The dimensions of the Polo are 3991 mm length, 1682 mm width, 1469 mm height, 2469 mm wheel base and 165 mm ground clearance. The suspension is McPherson strut with stabiliser bar at the front and semi independent trailing arm at the rear. The brakes are disc type at the front and drum type at the rear.

Verdict :

The Volkswagen Polo Facelift has air bags even for the base variant. Better styling and availability of automatic variant are the plus points of the Polo. The competition comes from the likes of the Hyundai i20, the Maruti Swift, the Skoda Fabia and the Fiat Punto Evo. It’s the best Cars between Rs 5 Lakh to Rs 10 Lakh Price in India.
