Ways You Can Save On Concert Tickets

Buying concert tickets is not cheap. Depending on the act, you can easily spend hundreds — even for the seats in the very back. Fortunately, with a few tricks and some tips, you might be able to see your favorite band live for a fraction of what you expect to pay. Here are a few ways to save on concert tickets.

Buy Directly From The Box Office
When you go to a website like Ticketmaster, you pay a service charge in exchange for the convenience of picking them up from the comfort of your computer. If you go to the box office at the venue, you can usually eliminate this fee and save a few dollars. Of course, this doesn’t work everywhere — Rolling Stones tickets now available on the market are probably not at your local box office anymore, they’re probably sold out.
Split Your Group
Going with a big group can be an expensive proposition, for the simple reason that finding tickets grouped together is often hard. If you split into pairs, though, finding great seats for lower prices is a lot easier.
Get Your Tickets Free
Saving money is one thing, but not spending any at all is better. While you might not see the act you were hoping for, but there are ways to get tickets for free. One is a radio station’s giveaway. Thanks to the Internet and social media, finding out when your local stations give away tickets to hot concerts is easier than ever. Even better, these tickets tend to be for the best seats you can get.
While it’s not necessarily easy to win concert ticket concerts, it never hurts to try. You never know, after all someone has to win and it might be you.
If you have time on your hands or you’re looking for a job, you can also ask your local venue for a job or a volunteer position as an usher. That might let you see the act you want for free.
Another option is to get a spot as a “seat filler” for performances that have too many empty seats. This usually happens when the concert or the performance is going to be televised, since they don’t want the audience to look empty onscreen, and these kinds of opportunities tend to turn up more in big cities like LA and New York. Still, searching for seat filler opportunities wherever you live can’t hurt.
Go With Lawn Seats
If you’ve never tried lawn seating, give it a go! Many people think lawn seating is like standing at the fence and trying to see what’s going on, but that isn’t necessarily true. Many venues’ lawn seats make for a fantastic experience. Sure, you may not have a “seat” in the traditional sense, but how much sitting were you planning to do anyway?
Be Patient
Unless the concert is at a small venue (like a Hard Rock Cafe) the price of tickets on the resale market will often go down as the concert approaches. They tend to be most expensive right when the tickets go on sale and everyone is in a purchasing frenzy.
Similarly, if there are multiple concert dates in the same place, the first show is usually most expensive. Pick a later show and you may pay less for tickets.
