VA’s Public Trust is a Lie

Veterans Administration chief Robert McDonald says he's all for letting vets see non-VA doctors -- he just wants to defund the program that pays for it.

LOS ANGELES — VA Secretary Robert A. McDonald’s top assistants joined U.S. Congressman Ted Lieu’s senior deputies and intentionally lied to Veterans and the general public about a VA “gate opening” ceremony being canceled because of gopher holes.

To the extreme contrary, a “private ceremony” was held for the benefit of these same entrusted public servants along with selected wealthy and influential attendees, while everyday Veterans and local residents were deliberately deceived and subsequently denied equal attendance to a public event.

Thus, nothing has changed, as it’s “business as usual” and reminiscent when Sue Young, former executive director of Veterans Park Conservancy (VPC), held “private parties” on Veterans land for her wealthy non-Veteran cronies under the guise of “honoring our veterans,” which had the full support of former Secretary of the VA Eric Shinseki, U.S .Congressman Henry Waxman and U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Now, it’s Carolina Winston Barrie, a former member of VPC’s board of directors, who is continuing with this private and privileged charade as Thursday’s scandalous “private ceremony” to open the front gate for public access was her idea.

In fact, with just the turn of a key, Carolina Barrie was able to accomplish what Sue Young was unable to achieve for nearly a quarter-century, and that is to open the VA’s front gates and transform this sacred land into a public park.

And Ms. Barrie did it without an illegal “sharing agreement” to build a bogus public park. Even worse, she did it with the blessings of the Secretary of the VA and Congressman Ted Lieu and their top aides, all entrusted to prevent such a hijacking to ever happen.

In addition, Ms. Barrie is having her own private plaques made to hang on the multi-million dollar front fence that was partially funded with Veteran VA healthcare money in cahoots with the VPC fat-cats.

Bottom line, nothing has changed since the days of yore, including Secretary McDonald’s behind-closed door “settlement agreement” six months ago to vacate nine illegal VA real estate deals.

In sum, the settlement agreement was a big lie, as is everything that takes place on Veterans deeded property at the Los Angeles VA.

Things are worse — much worse — than before the ALCU lawsuits were filed and Veterans were being falsely arrested for hanging the American Flag in distress six years ago, which sent an official message to the general public signifying that “Veterans lives and their property are in extreme danger,” as provided in the U.S. Flag Code.

Make no mistake, Veteran lives and their property continue to be in extreme danger with no hope in sight.

Regarding the VA’s sinister “private ceremony” to open the front gates to the general public instead of building emergency shelter, please watch this youtube video …..

Thanks to Iraqi War Marine Combat Veteran Michael Woolston and his professional film coverage coupled with the unwavering leadership of Ted Hayes, an Internationally-recognized homeless activist, who were able to intervene after receiving a “tip” about the “private ceremony” that included the VA Secretary McDonald and his aides.

Let there be no misunderstanding: Things are far worse since the malicious vacating of the Federal Judgment that exposed nine illegal occupants on VA property, as forewarned by hanging the American Flag in distress.

Not only are the font gates now open to the general public, but on Saturday, more than 5,000 public attendees showed up for the annual AIDS Bicycle fundraiser held on these sacred grounds while tens of thousands of war-injured and impoverished Veterans are forced to live homeless and hungry on skid row and back alley squalor.

While 5,000 public attendees swarmed the Veterans Grand Lawn, the VA refused to honor a formal request filed by Dick Southern, Region 9 Director of Vietnam Veterans of America, to host a long-term crisis-shelter “Welcome Home Reception Center” at the same location in conjunction with the 96-member Los Angeles Neighborhood Community Council that has declared Los Angeles to be in a “state of emergency” for homeless Veterans.

Instead, VA has opened the front gates to the general public and an AIDS bicycle fundraiser, in addition to illegally storing nearly 100 new Mazdas “after” the Federal Judgment was vacated.

Not to worry though, as progress is on the way because Thursday Secretary McDonald cut a ribbon to open the obscure and antiquated “Building 257” as a “Veteran Community Resource and Referral Center” to house 35 homeless Veterans.

Has anyone besides the Old Veterans Guard ever informed the VA Secretary and his aides that there are tens of thousands of homeless Veterans in Los Angeles? Apparently not.

Nonetheless, if the Secretary wasn’t embarrassed by Thursday’s mismanaged and egregious debacle, he should be.

Perhaps he’s now ready to listen to common sense and realistic solutions instead of being jostled around with “symbolism” by the dishonest and visionless VA bureaucrats, political hacks and self-serving “stakeholders” (neighboring non-veteran entities)

And perchance, Secretary McDonald will finally recognize the necessity to honor true Veteran advocacy and not so-called public trust.

And this will only happen if he will seriously listen to seasoned Veteran advocates who have loyally defended this land on behalf of disabled and homeless Veterans, instead of being lied to and dictated by the overwhelming forces of non-Veteran special interest groups, including feckless and untrustworthy Veterans Service Organizations.

It has now become mandatory that Secretary McDonald take the same hard-core initiative to do the right thing with the right people for the right reasons, as he did the wrong things with the wrong people for the wrong reasons.

Most importantly – homeless Veterans cannot wait until the end of the year for help.

They need righteous action now and that will only happen when the endless lies by the public trust are stopped, which has immorally prolonged Veteran homelessness.

In sum, we need honest public servants with honest action and that will only happen when there’s an abrupt end to the never-ending lies by VA bureaucrats and political hacks.

VA Secretary McDonald, U.S. Congressman Lieu and L.A. Mayor Garcetti have continuously lied about this Truth: Los Angeles is in a “state of emergency” for homeless Veterans!

It’s time to honor this Truth and put “Veterans first” with “shelter first” by holding a crisis shelter program on the Grand Lawn, as has been repeatedly requested!

“Save Our Veterans Land” and “Bring Our Homeless Veterans HOME.”

God Bless America and the Veterans Revolution!
