Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) voted to allow veterans to receive official identification cards through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) by supporting the bipartisan Veteran’s ID Card Act. Currently, the VA only offers ID cards to those who have served at least 20 years in the Armed Forces or those who receive medical care for a service-connected disability.
This leaves a large population of veterans who have served honorably with no easy way to prove their military service. This bill corrects this deficiency. It will now go to the President for his signature.
“Since taking office, I have heard from veterans across our region who are frustrated that they do not have a simple, convenient way to prove their service to our country,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “That’s why I was pleased to join with Democrats and Republicans today to support this reasonable solution that will make life easier for many of our brave veterans.”
