This Christmas season, 126 wreaths were placed on veterans’ graves to honor the town’s fallen heroes.
The national movement, Wreaths Across America, was the inspiration for the local effort dubbed Wreaths for Westford Vets that this year involved students from Westford Academy.
Westford residents have been serving the country in times of conflict since the American Revolution, and more than 800 veterans are buried in the town’s cemeteries. However, some of the graves are barren during holiday seasons, often without any visitors at all, according to resident Nicole Pelletier.
Pelletier set out to change that by honoring veterans with the Wreaths for Westford Vets initiative — an effort to provide holiday wreaths for the graves of local veterans.
