State eyes $200K to help local veterans find jobs

BOSTON — State Rep. Diana DiZoglio, D-Methuen, has secured money in the House of Representatives budget for the coming year that would help a local career center continue its work helping disabled veterans find jobs.
DiZoglio sponsored an amendment in the House version of the fiscal year 2017 budget that provides $200,000 to Career Resources Corporation. It is a Haverhill-based nonprofit group that works throughout the Merrimack Valley to help veterans and people with disabilities and other challenges to be self-sufficient and successful.
“Our disabled veterans are one of our most vulnerable populations who served and protected us,” DiZoglio said. “The last we can do is help them find employment upon their return.”
Career Resources has partnered with the ValleyWorks Career Center, the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center and the City of Haverhill Veterans’ Services to provide area veterans with support in seeking and maintaining employment. Career Resources has also teamed up with Home Depot in Methuen and other local businesses to identify disabled veterans in the area in need of employment and hire them, according to a press release from DiZoglio’s office.
To help with those efforts, DiZoglio previously secured $125,000 for Career Resources in the state’s fiscal 2016 budget. She said the organization has helped get jobs for disabled veterans from local communities including Methuen, Lawrence, Haverhill and North Andover.
