Smart City began more than 30 years ago in Houston, Texas and has evolved into the nation’s leading telecommunication provider for convention centers and meeting facilities. They manage the technology services for more than 3,000 events annually, including virtually every Fortune 500 Company event and major tradeshow. From auto shows to national political party conventions to world economic summits, Smart City has been on the floor, behind the scenes, and maintaining the connections that enable people to make important things happen.
Smart City is the nation’s leading communications provider to convention centers and hospitality venues. They began as Centel Facilities Communications, the telephone company of the Houston Astros and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. They expanded throughout the 1980s and 1990s through exclusive contracts with centers across the country.
Their company was purchased by its present owners in 1995, and renamed to Smart City Networks four years later. This new ownership brought together an expert team of telecommunications entrepreneurs and the new name reflected the growing movement from old telecommunications to the increasing use of technology and networking in the convention and tradeshow industry. Ever-expanding on this movement, they continued to grow with the acquisition of Vista-United Telecommunications, the exclusive telecommunications company of the Walt Disney World Resort. They continued to expand, acquiring Priority Networks, Inc. (PNI) and Convention Communications Provisioners, Inc. (CCPI), which resulted in additional accounts to their portfolio, collectively serving more than 35 facilities throughout the nation.
Today, they proudly employ more than 200 team members nationwide. Their Las Vegas headquarters is home to their national customer service, accounting, and technology teams, along with their Network Operations Center (NOC), which provides Internet security services and remote 24/7 monitoring for all of their networks. As they look toward the future, they will continue to advance their service offerings, both technologically and customer-service focused.
