BRYN MAWR, PA – The American College Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs and AALU have partnered to create a new mentoring program that will pair successful financial services executives with military veteran scholarship recipients. The program, called the Veteran Mentor Network, is scheduled to launch on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11.
“The goal is to provide our veteran scholars with the encouragement, support and guidance they need to promote their professional development and growth,” said Ted Digges, Executive Director of The American College Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs. “Having a mentor to assist through that critical early career phase could be a key. What we’re trying to do is put them in the best possible position for success.”
The collaboration between The College and AALU is a natural one. The mission of The American College Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs is to provide educational support and career opportunities in the financial services profession to active duty service members, veterans and their spouses. Since it was founded in 2012, the Center has awarded more than 225 full scholarships.
AALU has been a trusted voice for the life insurance profession for 60 years. Its membership is made up of active advocates for the profession, who are a trusted voice on policy issues impacting Americans’ financial security. “As a Penn Mutual affiliate, AALU member, and a proud American, I am excited to see AALU and The American College take this honorable step to help our veterans succeed in their post-military endeavors,” said John Watson III, AALU Board of Directors member since 2013. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to try to repay their selflessness in defense of our great country.”
