Service women to get their due at Friday’s Veterans Day parade

Silicon Valley’s veterans, including women who have served as far back as World War II, will be honored Nov. 11 at the annual Veterans Day parade in downtown San Jose.
Keeping with this year’s theme of “Men and Women Serving Our Country,” Brigadier Gen. Laura Yeager, a combat pilot in Iraq with an extensive list of accomplishments, will be grand marshal.
“We’re especially glad we have a female grand marshal this year and a few World War II female veterans that will be riding in the parade,” Frances McVey, a Vietnam War veteran and president of the United Veterans Council of Santa Clara County, told the Resident. McVey was a tactical coordinator and mission commander who flew a P3-Orion during his service before retiring in 1995.
