1. Local job losses continue to outpace gains, but the losses are slowing.
Houma-Thibodaux has seen both monthly gains and losses since mid-2016, though overall, declines have outpaced growth.
The area lost 1,800 jobs in January, gained 400 in February, lost 600 in March and gained 400 in April, 200 in May and 300 in June. The area lost 300 jobs in both July and August.
The result is a net loss of 1,700 jobs so far this year.
2. The area has lost nearly one-third of its oilfield jobs since the bust began, but the decline has slowed.
