Virginia has a large number of veterans, and we need to ensure that they are adequately cared for in any new legislation on health care. We owe them this consideration for the service they have provided to our nation.
A 2012 report by the Urban Institute and the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation concluded that more than 1.3 million of the country’s 12.5 million non-elderly veterans did not have health insurance or access to Veterans Affairs health care. When family members were included, the number of uninsured increases to 2.3 million.
