The Veterans Justice Outreach Program (VJO) is a VA based initiative focused on partnering with local law enforcement, jails and courts to assist eligible veterans access the treatment they need.  Part of this initiative to assist the local community in the creation of Veterans Courts.  Veterans courts are a specialized court modeled after the drug & mental health courts.  The purpose of Veterans courts are to ensure that eligible veterans involved in the criminal justice system have access to benefits, services & the treatment they deserve. 

VA Salt Lake City Health Care System current Veteran court involvement includes:

  • United States District Court of Utah with Federal Magistrate Judge Paul Warner.  This is the first Federal Veterans court in the country.
  • Salt Lake City Justice Court – Veterans Court with Judge Baxter.
