In Time Magazine Online today we read an interesting article entitled What to Do About Europe’s Secret Nukes. It seems that the United States has for many decades secretly armed Holland, Belgium, Germany and Italy with American nuclear weapons. The air forces of those countries are trained and possess the proper types of aerial weapons platforms to deliver those nuclear weapons to a target.
The immediate problem is that the weapons storage areas in those countries are not up to snuff and the people in those countries want the weapons removed. I also happen to know from personal experience that there is also good evidence that the Canadians are capable of delivering American loaned nuclear weapons to a target. Who else have we given nuclear weapons capability? Did we give that capability to anyone in the Southern Hemisphere? If so, who?
It is the world’s worst kept nuclear secret that Israel has nuclear weapons capability. Did they design their own weapons or do they have ours? Just asking. Do you think it is a good idea to take our nuclear weaponry back before terrorists break into lightly fortified sites and take them from our friends? Just a thought.
In Time Online’s political blog called Swampland, we learn that no one in Congress is really sure how to pay for Mr. Obama’s War. Imagine that!
We have no money to pay for a continuing war that we have no national defense business conducting. Al Qaeda, our enemy on 9/11, has less than 100 people in the country we are about to "surge" upon. Does any of this make sense to anyone? I don’t see it.
In another Time article entitled What Obama Left Out: How to Grow the Afghan Army we learn that the basic premise of the Obama Plan for A-stan may not be very sensible. It has never been done before.
In an article from CBSNews Online we learn that Senator McCain opposes any withdrawal date for Afghanistan military engagements. Hmmm! I don’t know what to say to that.
In this article from the same source entitled Troops, Families Brace for Afghan Surge we learn about how the troopers from Fort Drum feel about this mess.
And for my last story today, do you remember who Muntadhar al-Zeidi is? He is the guy who threw his shoes at President Bush in Iraq last year at the news conference.
Well, the Associated Press is reporting that last week he was speaking at a news conference himself in Paris and guess what? A man who was at the conference who appeared to be an Iraqi threw his shoes at al-Zeidi while he was speaking! That story is entitled Shoe on Other Foot for Iraqi Reporter.
What goes around comes around I guess.
