davmobileservcieDisabled American Veterans (DAV) help Veterans file Claims

by Robert L. Hanafin, SP/5, U.S. Army (69-76), MAJOR, U.S. Air Force-Retired
Life Member, DAV

This is the second letter I have received from Disabled American Veterans (DAV) within two years informing me of a DAV Mobile Service unit coming just 20 minutes from my home in Ohio. I assume that I am getting these notifications because I am a Life Member of DAV, and of course, a 100% Disabled Vet who may know other Vets in need of assist.

I strongly advise regardless if you are a WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, Gulf War, or Iraq and Afghanistan War Vet – AND you need assist or follow-up on a VA Claim take advantage of this opportunity.

Letter from the DAV Mobile Service Office, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.

If you want answers about rights and benefits you EARNED through your service to your country – as well as free, professional assistance with claims from a highly trained expert, it is coming your way thanks to an extremely generous grant from Harley-Davidson Foundation to the DAV!

A fully equipped DAV National Service Office on wheels will make the following stop to help you with your benefits at no cost to you: (I am noting the Ohio location, but will post a link so how you can download or see the DAV cross country schedule and how close a Mobile Service Office is coming to you. I will also post contact information so that you can try making other arrangements if you are too disabled to reach a location. (That is between you and the DAV, I am not an official representative of DAV only a member)

As part of the 2008 Harley’s Heroes Tour, a DAV National Service Officer – rigorously and professionally schooled in the full range of benefits for military veterans and retirees – will provide you counseling and claim filing assistance. Like you, this NSO is a Veteran.

Because the DAV is a nonprofit organization dedicated solely to serving Veterans, our NSO has only one goal: making sure, you get all the benefits and services you EARNED. Considering Veterans part of the Harley-Davidson family, the company’s Foundation shares this goal. "It’s a natural partnership," in their words, "Many Veterans have a love affair with the…motorcycle."

Let me repeat, the help offered under the Harley’s Heroes Tour is completely FREE…just like all DAV services to Veterans and their families. DAV membership is not required.

When you come to the DAV Mobile Service Office location (anywhere), bring your VA Claim number (if you have one), Social Security number, and any pertinent documentation (even from a private, civilian source outside the military medical system). The DAV builds better lives for all our nation’s Veterans and their families.

I posted several articles recently dealing with VA Claims and how you can file them yourself if your are able and confident enough to do so, including how you get sponsorship from VA recognized VSOs. Suffice it to say, remember whatever your political views on war, keep them to yourself unless they affect your disability claim such as questioning your role in the war aggravates PTSD.

The best approach is to leave your views on the Iraq War or War on Terror outside the van or attention of any NSO/VSO. They are not interested in your views on war, and if they do not share those views may influence the quality of assistance you get. That is only my opinion based experience I had but NOT with a DAV NSO.
