Media Coverage of Pro-Peace Groups Opposed to the Obama Surge Intentionally Scarce

mediacoveragelogo_150   This is a follow up on Higgins’ Special Report – "No You Can’t!" Protesters To Tell Obama at December 12 Rally.

We at VT are going to need to work harder to help Pro-Peace groups and independent minded political candidates get the word out with spreading media coverage via our news and social networks.

Readers and viewers will be in total denial (naïve to put it simple) if you seriously believe that any dissent to government policies right or wrong will get fair and balanced coverage from Pro-Israel/Pro-War mainstream media.

There are a few things these two men have in common, CHANGE means nothing to either one, or rest assured each administration can and will maintain a MEDIA BLACKOUT on any dissent to Bush or Obama’s foreign policy.

In addition, any independent minded political candidate is going to need as much help as he or she can get, because they will not only have to fight an uphill  battle against the Republican Party establishment, they will also have to fight an uphill battle in primaries against the Democratic Party establishment.

THESE ARE THE NEWS STORIES AND LIMITED MEDIA COVERAGE THE AMERICAN VOTER IS BEING KEPT IGNORANT (DUMBED DOWN) ABOUT – IN THIS RESPECT WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OBAMA AND BUSH? THERE IS NONE!!!

Suffice it to say that Higgins post above is but the Tip of the Spear of OUTRAGE to Obama’s War(s).

       – A Google term search of Protestors Afghanistan got 2,810,000 hits from around the world.

       – US braced for surge of protest over war in Afghanistan The conflict in Afghanistan used to be called the ‘forgotten war’. But with the number of soldiers dying there outstripping casualties in Iraq, support – for the fighting and for President Obama – is melting away

       – Anti-troop surge protest clears streets in Downtown Minneapolis to push for withdrawal from occupied Afghanistan Hundreds of people turned out to protest the escalation of war in Afghanistan as rush hour filled downtown Minneapolis streets Wednesday night. Marchers convened in the southwest corner of Loring Park at 5:30pm and then motioned cars aside as they took to the streets heading toward downtown on Hennepin Avenue.

       – Antiwar Protests are back in the news. If President Obama thinks the antiwar crowd is going to be silent with what most now concede is Obama’s war in Afghanistan, he would be mistaken. I doubt that though. President Obama knows his decision to surge into Afghanistan is unpopular.

       – Residents react to Obama’s troop surge On Wednesday morning, protesters will line up here on the Coolidge Bridge in Northampton to protest the President’s decision. The group is just one of several across the state and around the nation that are protesting. A new Gallup poll revealed how the American people feel about his decision. According to the survey, 35-percent approve of how the President is handling the war in Afghanistan, while 55-percent disapprove. People in western Massachusetts had mixed reactions to the President’s plan. Kim Stillwell told 22News she personal reasons for supporting the troop buildup — her brother is currently serving in Afghanistan. Others people echoed the President’s ideas – saying they need to see results.

       – Cambridge residents protest troop surge Cambridge -They didn’t have much time, but about 80 anti-war protesters organized with homemade signs and a brass band in Central Square one night after President Obama announced his plan to send 30,000 more troops into the war in Afghanistan. In left-leaning Cambridge, each of the protesters asked by the Chronicle said they had voted for Obama. "I voted for Obama because he wasn’t George Bush or John McCain. He ran his campaign on an anti-war stance. This is a man who won the Nobel Peace Prize. To see this escalation upsets me because you wonder about the character of the man," Moore said.        – Local military back Obama plan, protesters rally against it President Obama’s Afghanistan plan was met in Colorado Springs Tuesday by a mix of cheers and protests. And for local GIs, it may bring relief after three months of waiting for the White House to issue its Afghanistan strategy. Retired Generals cheered while protestors jeered, so much for balanced reporting, but biased reporting is better than no coverage at all. VT.Ed. Colorado Springs GAZETTE http://www.gazette.com/articles/rally-90106-planning-colorado.html

EDITORS NOTE: We ask our readers, espeically if you are located in Colorado to log onto the Colorado Springs Gazette and tell the so-called reporter doing this story that interviewing only Retired Generals in no way reflects how rank and file troops, especially enlisted troops who will really do the fighting and dying THINK, even if they were allowed to be interviewed by the media. To say that local military, including even rank and file military retirees based on interviewing two Retired Generals is ludicrous. This story is so blatantly BIASED toward military support for Obama’s decision that it ain’t funny. VT. Ed.

Students Head to D.C. for Gritty Spring Break Protests This year’s expected participation is lower than last year, with organizers expecting an estimated 100 participants compared to last year’s 150. Other groups are also arranging smaller actions. Our Spring Break’s march that is scheduled on the sixth anniversary of the War in Iraq may be the largest in D.C. on March 19. They attribute this trend to the influence of the new administration in the White House.

"I call it the Obama effect-the idea that now Obama has been elected and we don’t need to do anything anymore,"

Members of Our Spring Break say that they have felt an opposite effect. They explain that, while they oppose many of President Obama’s policies, most notably the troop surge into Afghanistan, they believe that they now have a chance of being heard. They believe that President George W. Bush’s administration would never have taken their opinions into account.

EDITORS NOTE: OK, so their numbers are insignificant, but consider this – WE HAVE NO CONSCRIPTION – NO DRAFT. For any college campus to get let’s say a dozen students together to express their views on war(s) they cannot relate to would be near a divine miracle. VT.Ed.

Readers are more than welcome to use the articles I've posted on Veterans Today, I've had to take a break from VT as Veterans Issues and Peace Activism Editor and staff writer due to personal medical reasons in our military family that take away too much time needed to properly express future stories or respond to readers in a timely manner. My association with VT since its founding in 2004 has been a very rewarding experience for me. Retired from both the Air Force and Civil Service. Went in the regular Army at 17 during Vietnam (1968), stayed in the Army Reserve to complete my eight year commitment in 1976. Served in Air Defense Artillery, and a Mechanized Infantry Division (4MID) at Fort Carson, Co. Used the GI Bill to go to college, worked full time at the VA, and non-scholarship Air Force 2-Year ROTC program for prior service military. Commissioned in the Air Force in 1977. Served as a Military Intelligence Officer from 1977 to 1994. Upon retirement I entered retail drugstore management training with Safeway Drugs Stores in California. Retail Sales Management was not my cup of tea, so I applied my former U.S. Civil Service status with the VA to get my foot in the door at the Justice Department, and later Department of the Navy retiring with disability from the Civil Service in 2000. I've been with Veterans Today since the site originated. I'm now on the Editorial Board. I was also on the Editorial Board of Our Troops News Ladder another progressive leaning Veterans and Military Family news clearing house. I remain married for over 45 years. I am both a Vietnam Era and Gulf War Veteran. I served on Okinawa and Fort Carson, Colorado during Vietnam and in the Office of the Air Force Inspector General at Norton AFB, CA during Desert Storm. I retired from the Air Force in 1994 having worked on the Air Staff and Defense Intelligence Agency at the Pentagon.
