Nidal Hasan Out of IntensiveIn today’s Washington Post in an article entitled Pentagon inquiry into Fort Hood urges focus on service members who may pose risk we learn that an unusually blunt assessment from the investigative team will be released publicly tomorrow.  Here is an excerpt:

“The inquiry, which was led by retired Adm. Vernon E. Clark and former Army secretary Togo D. West Jr., also calls on the Pentagon to ensure that it fully staffs FBI-run Joint Terrorism Task Forces so that information collected by other government agencies about potential contacts between troops and terrorist groups is shared promptly with the Defense Department. And it recommends that the department designate one place to coordinate with other government agencies and assess internal threats.”

How about this: instead of seeing Muslim Americans as enemies at the highest levels of government, why don’t we do what we can to integrate them better into American society? Why don’t we take their points of view into consideration before making foreign policy decisions that affect their overseas families? Do you think that would make a difference here? Just a thought.
