Technical Consumer Products, Inc (TCP) was founded in 1993 by Ellis Yan.  Ellis Yan came to America from China at the age of 20 to study at Cleveland State University, where he earned a degree in accounting.  In 1986 he bought used equipment, exported it to China, and began producing halogen lights.  This marked the beginning of his entry into the lighting industry.
While the lighting manufacturers decided to abandon energy efficient lighting, Ellis persevered, believing that TCP could create a better light source to rival the incandescent light bulb.  In 1996, TCP was the first company to introduce the “SpringLamp Inside”, rather than a straight tube in a CFL, revolutionizing the residential lighting industry for the first time since Thomas Edison’s invention of the light bulb.
TCP has grown into one of the leading and most innovative companies in the lighting industry.  Today their US headquarters is located in Aurora, Ohio.  They also consist of North American distribution centers located in Ohio, California and Ontario.  Currently they have more than 200 employees in the US.  They also have more than 20 in Europe, South America and other locations.  Lastly, they have over 7,000 employees in China.
