Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital received the prestigious Seven Seals Award from the Illinois Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), today in a special ceremony. The Seven Seals award acknowledges the hospital for meritorious leadership and support of the men and women who serve the country in any of the United States’ Guard or Reserve Units. Hines Director Sharon Helman accepted the award from Brigadier General (retired) Jack Kotter, the Army Reserve Ambassador for the state of Illinois, on behalf of all the employees at Hines.
“Supporting the men and women who have served our country is nothing new to the employees at Hines,” said Director Helman. “We are committed to our nation’s heroes, whether they are patients or employees at our hospital.” Hines was submitted for the award by Michael Holub, Public Affairs Director for Illinois ESGR. “Over the past year, I have presented Patriot Awards to supervisors in three separate components at Hines,” he said. “Their support for the Guard and Reserve reaches beyond just one single department within the hospital. Hines is unquestionably proud and extremely supportive of their employees who serve in the Reserve components.”
Director Helman accepted the award at the same time signing a Statement of Support pledging:
- To fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.
- To provide managers and supervisors the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
- To appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans.
- To continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, crisis and war.
Hines VA Hospital employs more than 3,000 people, with approximately 800 of them being Veterans or members of the Reserve components.
