Houston, TX, June 29, 2012:  Five of Houston’s newest Veteran-Owned Businesses attended the National Veterans Small Business Conference in Detroit, June 26 – 29, 2012. The new veteran business owners are Agnes Lai (Air Force), Leta Scott (Army), Cynthia Beard (Army), Jason Ebel (Army) and Taylor Reynolds (Army). All are recent graduates of the Kauffman Foundations FastTrac®  NewVentureTM Course for (Houston) Veterans and each graduate received a grant to attend the Conference. “The Kauffman FastTrac® New VentureTM Course and the Syracuse University Institute for Veterans and Military Families / Bob Woodruff Foundation are positioning the new Houston Veteran Business Owners to grow their businesses exponentially by providing grants for  them to attend the National Conference and network with hundreds of industry leaders and key decision makers,” remarked Marylyn Harris, MBA, Executive Director of the Women Veterans Business Center and Houston FastTrac®-certified Course Facilitator.

The FastTrac® NewVenture course, developed by Kauffman FastTrac®, is designed to help veterans transition into the civilian workforce by equipping aspiring entrepreneurs with the knowledge to launch a business. The course, a $700 value, is being offered free of charge to veterans via a generous grant by Accenture, Inc.  Houston Course participants were recognized by US Congressman Al Green, (Houston), at a formal graduation ceremony on June 16, 2012.
