1.   Washington state warning seniors of new phone scam.  The state of Washington is warning consumers this week about a new telephone scam that appears to be targeting senior citizens. The callers have reportedly been posing as state agents who are trying to sell reverse mortgages as part of a property tax relief program or veteran’s aid program.
 
2.   Servicemembers often unaware of pet travel requirements.  Military families are often world travelers and their pets are no exception, but servicemembers many times are not aware of restrictions that might apply to bringing their animals to other countries.
 
3.   Job fairs part of nationwide effort to find work for those who served.  Patrick Paquin has two college degrees and more than 20 years of experience with the Air Force and Navy. What he doesn’t have is a job. “I’m one step from declaring bankruptcy,” the 47-year-old Columbus veteran said. “I’m not asking to be rich.” Paquin and many veterans nationwide are looking for work, and business and veterans organizations have launched initiatives to help them.
 
4.   Drones to patrol skies over Republican convention.  Security-conscious authorities will be using a wide variety of devices and technology to monitor the skies, streets and waterways around Tampa during next week’s Republican National Convention. Cameras, helicopters and law enforcement officers all will be employed to help look for suspicious activity and possible threats. Add to that mix one more technology: drones.
 
5.   Army study finds that troops suffer concussions in training.  The preliminary results of a military study have sparked concern among brain specialists inside and outside the military, suggesting that some soldiers went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan having suffered mild traumatic brain injuries in training – and might have been more vulnerable to long-term consequences from additional concussions later.
 
6.   Eleven heroes finally at peaceful rest at Pa. cemetery.  A Fayette County, Pa. Vietnam veteran’s five-year battle to ensure forgotten comrades received military burials ended at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies near Bridgeville on Thursday when the unclaimed cremains of 11 veterans were laid to rest with full military honors.
