When I was teaching Arabic at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I once showed students a 1930s map of the Middle East. There was a “Palestine” on it. But there was no “Israel.”
One of my colleagues heard about it. “You shouldn’t do that!” she said. “The Jewish students will think you want to wipe Israel off the map!” Though Arab herself, she apparently didn’t see that the real problem was that Palestine actually HAD been wiped off the map.
Now Google, in a small act of cartographic genocide, is labeling Syria’s Golan Heights as part of “Israel.” I wonder how long it will be before “Israel” includes everything between the Nile and the Euphrates?

Could you imagine the outcry if Iran published a bunch of maps for their internet search engines which would be used by millions of their students to define the world, that didn’t have an Israel on it? If they just “wiped Israel off the map”? We are literally THE MOST propagandized people on the face of the earth while we run around listening to idiotic country songs telling us how “free” we are.

Internationally recognized as Syrian territory, the Golan Heights has been occupied and administered by Israel since 1967. Now Google just wipes them off the map.

On Google Maps, there is no definition of the territory as “Golan Heights’ or Syria. It is simply laid out in the same color tone as Israel and when you look closely at the border definitions you see it’s called “Israel.” The entire civilized world recognizes the Golan Heights as Syrian occupied territory, but Google Maps has handed it over to the Israelis just like that.
Yesterday I wrote about how Google has seemingly wiped Palestine off the map as well. So after seeing this little connotation marker between countries, I thought I would go look at what they put up between Israel and what’s left of Palestine and Palestine and Jordan. And guess what?
Yeah, you guessed it. Palestine wiped off the map yet again.
Could you imagine the outcry if Iran published a bunch of maps for their internet search engines which would be used by millions of their students to define the world, that didn’t have an Israel on it? If they just “wiped Israel off the map”? Can you imagine the screed from Abe Foxman and Alan Dershowitz? It would be WWIII in about 10 minutes.
