Zionist Christian, televangelist and faith healer Marion “Pat” Robertson has won the first ever Winston Churchill Life Time Achievement Award from fellow Zionist Christian Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition last Friday. Reed is a protege of Robertson’s and was the leader of Robertson’s political organization the Christian Coalition.
The son-of-a-senator Robertson is reported to have said he is honored to be associated with Churchill and claimed Churchill made monumental contributions to freedom. It does seem appropriate that Robertson would win an award named for Churchill. After all, both men failed at their stated goals. In Churchill’s case the stated purpose of England declaring war against National Socialist Germany was to keep Poland free. At the end of the war Poland was not free but was part of the violent, anti-progress and repressive Communist bloc of the Soviet Union. (A great book which does an outstanding job of covering this important overlooked fact is Churchill, Hitler and the Unnecessary War by Patrick J. Buchanan.)
In Robertson’s case he claims he’s bringing people closer to God but encourages them to deny their gift from God of innate reason in order to believe all of the unreasonable claims made in the Semitic Bible. It’s not possible to get closer to God without using your innate God-given reason. (The American founder and Deist Thomas Paine makes this very important point in his important thought provoking landmark book on God, Deism and religion, The Age of Reason, The Complete Edition. For the book in Kindle click here.)
Robertson’s buddy Ralph Reed is an opportunistic con-man and charlatan. He was involved with his friend, fellow con-artist and convicted felon Jack Abramoff in cheating American Indian tribes out of millions of dollars. Reed, in his own words, was paid $4 million to “rile up our pastors” and other Christians against gambling casinos which were competing with casinos Abramoff had an interest in. (Abramoff was so influential that George W. Bush had a White House staffer Doug Domenech make sure Abramoff was happy. Domenech was appointed state secretary of natural resources by Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell who is a graduate of Pat Robertson’s Regent University.)
Pat Robertson doesn’t care much for the truth. He lied about being a combat Marine during the Korean War. If it wasn’t for a real combat Marine, Pete McCloskey, Robertson may have gotten away with his lies. Lies which belittle real combat Marines and all veterans who’ve really seen combat. Here’s a quote which makes it very clear Robertson was lying about being a combat Marine: “McCloskey, who served with Robertson in Korea, wrote a public letter which said that Robertson was actually spared combat duty when his powerful father, a U.S. Senator, intervened on his behalf, and that Robertson spent most of his time in an office in Japan. According to McCloskey, his time in the service was not in combat but as the “liquor officer” responsible for keeping the officers’ clubs supplied with liquor. Robertson filed a $35 million libel suit against McCloskey in 1986. He dropped the case in 1988, before it came to trial and paid McCloskey’s court costs.”
Robertson proves he doesn’t even buy what he’s selling. For example, frequently you can see him on his 700 Clubclaiming someone is being healed
The charlatan Pat Robertson getting his knee examined by a doctor. Pat doesn’t buy the faith-healing nonsense he peddles to sincere Christians.
through faith. However, Robertson himself prefers doctors, hospitals and medicine for everything from a bad knee to heart surgery! Belief in faith-healing takes the lives of innocent children every month.
Another lie Robertson likes to spread is that America’s founders were in line with his own religious beliefs. He frequently misquotes many of America’s founders as being fundamentalist type Christians when in fact many of them were Deists. Robertson completely ignores the very important role Deism played in the American Revolution and in the founding of the American Republic. Here’s an article which makes clear that Robertson has nothing in common with the religious/spiritual beliefs of Thomas Jefferson.
Like other Zionist Christian such as John Hagee, Robertson teaches that America must blindly support the Jewish state of Israel. He is strongly in agreement with the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament based neoconservative war machine. He even wrote an article called The Land of Israel: A Gift From God declaring that God gave a gift of real estate to the Hebrews/Jews. This myth is key to the religious violence in Palestine today. It has lead to the war in Iraq and will probably bring about a war against Iran and Syria. The truth needs to be told so we can diffuse these myth based wars and great suffering. As Thomas Paine wrote, “But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants it the liberty of appearing.”
