For business opportunity and other small business and medium sized (SMB) owners who already use Twitter as a professional networking and marketing tool and for those who have wondered whether or not tweeting pays off when it comes to generating more business, the verdict is in. Getting Twitter followers does matter and can have a real impact on your bottom line.
In fact, as many of 72% of the folks that follow various SMBs say they are more likely to buy from that business as a result. That’s according to findings from a recent survey of 500 people over the age of 18 in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, all of whom regularly follow various businesses on Twitter.
Twitter is also a great way for smaller business owners to gain traction via word of mouth it seems, with 82% of small-business followers reporting they are more likely to recommend the products or services of the businesses they follow to friends or family. Given the incredibly powerful role that word of mouth can play in growing any small business and making it more profitable, the original home of the hashtag may warrant some or even greater attention.
Moreover, given that a full 85% of those surveyed said that their relationships on Twitter make them feel more closely connected to those businesses, it also may engender a sense of loyalty. And we all know just how important brand or any other kind of loyalty can be when it comes to consumers’ purchasing decisions, especially over the long-term.
Summing it all up, Manager of Twitter Ads Research Tim Perzyk had this to say in his post last week on the survey’s results: “The study confirms that people want to hear from and interact with SMBs on Twitter. Not only that, if you invite ideas from your followers, acknowledge and respond to their feedback and inform them about new offerings, they’ll be more likely to help you grow your business through purchases and recommendations.”
So, how do you as a business opportunity or other small business owner go about getting more Twitter followers? According to the experts at Twitter, the answers largely lie in the survey findings themselves, beginning with why people want to and actually do follow a given SMB on Twitter in the first place. In fact, it’s just this kind of insight that will enable you as a small business owner to tailor the information you provide through your Twitter feed to meet your own customers’ needs and wants most appropriately.
Here are some tips to get started or enhance what it is you’re already doing:
• 73% of survey respondents said they follow SMB brands to get updates on future products, so tweeting about new product launches and special offers to try new products and services are welcome
• 63% follow a brand to show support, indicating they may be open to market research using this all important tool, as well as promotional offers, and
• 61% say they follow businesses so that they can provide feedback and engage in interactive communication, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and make changes accordingly.
