While wearing whatever you want is certainly a perk that many owners of work-at-home business opportunities and other small businesses enjoy, it may not be such a good idea to make wearing your jammies a habit. That’s according to expert advice from Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson, authors of a new book, Remote: Office Not Required, that highlights both the challenges and unexpected benefits of the growing work-from-home trend.

It seems there is an actual psychological advantage that goes along with getting dressed for work just as if you were going to an offsite office job. Of course, that doesn’t mean you have to put on your best suit and tie or even wear a skirt, but it does mean you should look presentable, even if it’s just business casual.
Getting out of your night clothes or even your relax-around-the-house attire, they say, will put you in a more productive mindset and will help you to get and stay motivated. Plus, it creates a much-needed natural boundary between your personal and your professional lives, something that is really crucial if you want to be successful.
As for their other top tips for maximizing work-at-home business opportunity or other small business productivity and staying motivated as a small business owner, they include: setting a schedule; mixing it up between working from your home office, which means going to the office on occasion, if you are working for or with someone else, or even working from the local coffee shop to minimize isolation; separating your digital devices between the personal and the professional; and taking on work that you really enjoy as opposed to work that you don’t, given the choice.
