Little children may not yet be appropriate for mobile phones yet but the teens are amongst those who hunger to have one so that they can communicate with their friends, make them look cool or even play those mobile phone games that everyone is raving about. According to a certain study, around 78 percent of teens have their own mobile phones and half of this population owns their own smart phones. While outdated phones that are not capable of connecting to the internet is not that much of threat, smart phones, on the other hand has a different risk. Teens carrying smart phones are just making them carry their computers with them, only that there are fewer restrictions placed by their parents and that they are free to use it how they please. Many experts advise their children to install an app that helps them monitor their children’s daily use. Below are the reasons why.

Cyber Bullying
The number of children, including teens that are being bullied through the internet has increased rapidly as the internet has grown a free world where anyone can say anything they please without suffering any illegal detention from the authorities. Cyber bullying generally involves abuse or harassment through email, text messages or social media. You will know that your child is being bullied when you notice signs of depression or anxiety whenever they use their mobile phone. Talk with your child about such concerns and be open about their worries. You can monitor this type of stuff if you have a parental control app on the child’s system.
Sexting
The trending form of communication these days that drives parents insane is when their children sending pornographic images through their text messages. It can be their own nude photo or someone else’s being distributed between 2 people or within the group. This is often the cause of scandals amongst teens and may bring a big impact on the life of the child which then may result to cyber bullying. Explain to your children that such provocative or pornographic images is off limits for their age and that they should restrain themselves from doing such things. Sexting is a way for sexual predators to entice teens to meet up personally only to end up being sexually abused. You may need to monitor your mobile phone bill including your child’s text messages to make sure that sexting is not happening.
Internet Safety
Anything happens in the internet and anyone can be a victim regardless of age. If your child is given a smart phone for the first time, tell them how to appropriately use one and explain the things that should be avoided at all costs. There are not much restrictions with smart phones when they are connected to the internet and they have access to virtually any website they can search for. You can ask internet providers to block certain websites that may be accessed by children within the area or any parental control app that will prevent your child’s mobile phone from visiting inappropriate websites, blocking them from downloading any media or restricting the time usage.
