Honolulu business owner seeks to give back to community

(Honolulu, HI) – In Hawaiian culture, the concept of Ohana—family—is an invaluable one. When Mary Whitworth opened her EmbroidMe franchise to serve the needs of Eastern Oahu, she did so out of a sense of obligation to her ohana. Whitworth and her husband, John, opened the business to create a legacy for their son.
“My son has a creative side and I wanted to start a business with him that he would also enjoy,” Whitworth said.
The Oahu branch of EmbroidMe extends this ethic to the community at large. Mary and John Whitworth are both US Army veterans, with 31 and 25 years of service, respectively. “We strive to support the military community,” Whitworth said. “Being a disabled veteran-owned business, we like to bring quality products at the best prices to our military customers.”
The Whitworths also bring their sense of duty to their involvement with local charities, including the Sergeant Audie Murphy Association, The Order of the Purple Heart Association, and the Oahu Junior ROTC.
They were named a Hawaii’s HEARTS Marketing Partner for their shared dedication to the spirit of giving, their passion for the arts, and their dedication to local communities.
In addition to serving all of Eastern Oahu, Whitworth plans to expand services to cover Waimanalo, Hawaii Kai, Kahala, Kaimuki, Waikiki, and the greater Honolulu region. While the old adage in business is the customer is always right, the Whitworths believe in going above and beyond. Their motto is, “The answer is yes, now what is your question?”
EmbroidMe has 220 Resource Centers throughout the United States and Canada and more than 350 Resource Centers worldwide. EmbroidMe plans to open 70 new resource centers throughout the country by the end of the year, reaching 500 locations worldwide by the end of 2016
