Here’s where we are in America: A sexy man who is employed to read a teleprompter that rehashes stuff you already learned on Twitter apparently told some “war stories” about war stories, and now we have a crisis of trust in American journalism. On Sunday, Maureen Dowd wrote the prototypical 2015-era take down piece on the Brian Williams affair. It was an entire report about how reporters knew Brian Williams was prone to embellishment that comes out after everybody freaking knows that Williams is prone to embellishment. Two weeks ago, Dowd’s column would have been the kind of must-read piece that justifies paying for journalism. Yesterday, it felt like Dowd was just giving the old-media its rim-job, while Williams watched.
