Russian Fighter Jets Hit 277 Terrorist Targets across Syria in Two Days

TEHRAN (FNA) – Russian military aircraft have carried out 85 sorties in last two days, hitting 277 terrorist targets in the Syrian provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Lattakia, Hama, Homs and Idlib, the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said Wednesday.

“Over the past 48 hours planes from the Russian aviation group in Syria have completed 85 military sorties against 277 targets in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Lattakia, Hama, Homs, and Idlib,” Major General Igor Konashenkov told Sputnik.

The Syrian Armed Forces broke an ISIL siege of the Kuweires airbase in the Aleppo province on Tuesday with the assistance of the Russian aviation, the spokesman said.

“As a result of the Russian aviation’s actions, the Syrian government forces liberated the Kuweires military airbase in the province of Aleppo. This airbase had been encircled by ISIL terrorists for more than two years.”

The Russian Aerospace Forces destroyed a major Nusra Front underground ammunition depot after receiving data on its location from the Syrian opposition, Konashenkov said.

“Near the village of Maheen in the province of Homs, a Su-34 bomber destroyed a major Nusra Front underground ammunition depot.”

The target was hit and completely destroyed by a BETAB-500 bunker buster bomb. A Su-24M pinpoint destroyed a Nusra Front mortar battery in the Syrian province of Hama, Konashenkov said.

Kuweires Victory Changing Military Equations in Aleppo in Favor of Gov’t Troops

TEHRAN (FNA) – Breaking the two and a half-year-long siege of Kuweires military airbase in Eastern Aleppo paved the way for taking control of another strategic city in the Northern Syrian province as another 100 kilometers of militant-held territories was seized back.

On Tuesday evening, the Syrian army, popular and Hezbollah forces, backed by the Syrian and Russian air forces lifted the siege of Kuweires military airbase after killing hundreds of ISIL terrorists.

“The situation in Aleppo will surely be different after lifting the Kuweires siege; the ISIL and Al-Nusra Front militants in Aleppo province, specially in its Northern countryside, should be waiting for massive military operations by the army and the popular forces from now on,” political and military analyst Seyed Mostafa Khoshcheshm said Wednesday.

The Arabic-language Al-Akhbar newspaper likened breaking the siege of Kuweires military airport to breaking the siege of Aleppo’s central prison in May 2014 not because of the severity of the clashes, but because of their key impacts on the continuation of Army’s operations in Aleppo countryside.

As winning back Aleppo’s Central Prison was key to a new phase of military operations in Aleppo province, the same is true about Kuweires Military Airport, it said.

The lifting of Kuweires Military Airport siege will also pave the way for seizing back the strategic town of Al-Bab.

The Syrian troops and Hezbollah forces rolled into the Kuweires airport at the end of their daylong last phase of massive operations on Tuesday.

Heavy clashes were underway around the Kuweires airport since early Tuesday morning and the Syrian army was defusing ISIL’s minefield before they could reach their friends in the base.

The Syrian army, the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Hezbollah combatants, backed up by Russian warplanes, launched the last round of their over one-month-long joint operations against the ISIL terrorists’ positions in Eastern Aleppo near the Kuweires airbase on Tuesday, and won full control over the strategic Aleppo-Raqqa Highway.

The attack started from multiple directions and ended up in cleaning up several villages from ISIL. Hundreds of the ISIL militants were killed or wounded in Tuesday operations.

In the next stage, Syrian and Russian Air Forces massively targeted the last strongholds of the ISIL militants around the Kuweires airbase.

In addition to the Syrian and Russian airstrikes, the artillery and mortar units of the army also shelled the ISIL strongholds to weaken their defense lines as much as possible to lay the ground for the combatants of Hezbollah, the army soldiers and the National Defense Forces to launch the final phase of their joint operations to lift the nearly 2.5-year-long siege on Kuweires airbase.

Intelligence sources said hundreds of ISIL militants were fleeing the Kuweires region to safer areas to save their lives after suffering heavy casualties in the joint massive attack of the Syrian Army and Hezbollah with the Russian air backup.

After cleaning the region, the pro-government troops had to defuse a minefield planted by the ISIL before they could reach the gates of airbase.

The ISIL Takfiri terrorists had besieged the Kuweires airbase for over 2.5 years, but the base itself was under the Syrian army’s control.

Hundreds of Syrian forces were under a tight siege at the airbase as a result of the occupation of vast areas surrounding the airport by the terrorists.

The Syrian army’s helicopters supplied foodstuff and other needs to the Syrian troops when the base was under siege.

Syrian President Assad Congratulates Syrian Forces on Great Victory against Terrorists in Kuweires

TEHRAN (FNA) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad hailed the Syrian Army, popular forces and Hezbollah fighters on their Tuesday victory against the ISIL terrorists in Aleppo province, particularly removal of the over 2.5-year-long siege on Kuweires Airbase.

There are unconfirmed reports from the battlefield about witnessing Iran’s Major General Qassem Soleimani leading the battle.

Sources from both sides of the war said General Soleimani was the top field commander and has been leading the CentCom of the Syrian army-NDF-Hezbollah at least for the last two days.

FNA is unable to confirm or reject these reports independently.

Syrian Army Moving to Win Control of Another Strategic Airbase

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army launched operations to win back control over a second airbase after its groundbreaking victory in the battle against ISIL in Aleppo that ended up with the removal of a 2.5-year-long siege of the Kuweires airbase on Tuesday, with military sources announcing on Wednesday that the second target is Marj al-Sultan Airbase in Damascus.

Military sources said the Syrian army and National Defense Forces (NDF) have already won control over the village of Nawleh near the strategic Marj al-Sultan Airbase, and killed a large number of Jeish al-Islam and al-Nusra Front Takfiri terrorists.

“The pro-government forces are now in control of 80% of the territories South the strategic airport,” the source told FNA on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Syrian army continued to advance against the Takfiri terrorists in Eastern Ghouta and retook strategic areas from the foreign-backed militants. The Syrian troops took full control over al-Mahalej area, to the South of Marj al-Sulatn, and the farms surrounding it, a military source said.

TEHRAN (FNA) – The Syrian Army stormed strongholds of Ahrar al-Sham militant group in the Northern part of Hama province on Wednesday, and killed at least 13 terrorists, including their commander. Assad al Eriyan was killed in the army attack on Ahrar al-Sham’s positions in the Northern part of Maan village. The militants’ mortars and rocket launchers were destroyed in the army offensive.

On Tuesday, the Syrian troops killed a large number of terrorists, and destroyed two pickups near al-Abboud checkpoint to the South of Morek city.

Reports also said Syrian warplanes destroyed positions of al-Nusra Front, Jund al-Aqsa and al-Ezza Battalions terrorist groups in Lahaya village and Morek city in the Northern countryside of Hama on Tuesday.

The air raids have reportedly inflicted heavy losses on the Takfiri militants.

Also on Tuesday, the Syrian Army stormed positions of Ahrar al-Sham militants near al-Mughayr village, killed their commander and pushed them back from the combat zone.

Hassan al-Mrei, a senior commander of Ahrar al-Sham, was killed in the pro-government forces’ offensive on their position in the abovementioned village.

The militants retreated after their commander was killed and the army deployed forces there.

Syrian Warplanes Bomb ISIL Targets in Deir Ezzur

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian fighter jets launched new airstrikes on ISIL concentration centers in Deir Ezzur province on Wednesday, leaving a large group of the terrorists dead.

The Syrian air raids targeted ISIL positions in al-Mariyeh, East of Deir Ezzur city, killing a large number of Takfiri terrorists and destroying their vehicles and weapons.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Syrian army confronted the ISIL militants in three separate battlefields in the province of Deir Ezzur, and killed at least 25 of them.

The ISIL concentration centers near Deir Ezzur airport, al-Mariyeh and al-Jafra came under massive attacks of the Syrian soldiers, which left 25 terrorists dead and many more wounded.

The militants’ hardware also sustained heavy damage in the army offensives.

Iraqi Forces Find Turkish Weapons, Explosives at ISIL Hideouts

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iraqi forces seized Turkish weapons and military equipment from the ISIL despite Ankara’s denial of any links with the Takfiri terrorist group.

The Iraqi forces gained control of al-Zawiye village, Northeast of Makhoul Mountains, in Salahuddin province after tough clashes with ISIL gunmen on Wednesday.

A source within al-Hashd al-Shaabi (popular forces) command center said the artillery units targeted a car bomb factory in al-Salman village near Makhoul Mountains, and destroyed it with all the terrorist inside.

Meanwhile, al-Hashd al-Shaabi forces thwarted two attacks by ISIL terrorists on positions of the Iraqi forces in al-Fatha area, North of Tikrit, and the area of al-Sad /5/, West of Tikrit, the capital of Salahuddin province. The clashes lasted for hours and inflicted heavy losses on the terrorists.

In Anbar, the Iraqi forces found dozens of barrels of Ammonium nitrate which turn into high explosives after mixing it with some materials.

A military source said the barrels carried “Made in Turkey” labels and dated back to 2 months before the date of the seizure.

The forces also found Turkish-made weapons, munitions and rockets in several areas in the provinces of Diyala and Salahuddin and in areas on the outskirts of the capital, Baghdad, during the liberation of those areas of the ISIL terrorists.

Turkey has repeatedly claimed that it has no ties with ISIL and labels it as a “terrorist group”.

Ankara asserts that it supports the al-Qaeda’s official branch in Syria, the Al-Nusra Front, but sees ISIL as an enemy.

Yet, many reports have so far surfaced the media proving that Turkey supports ISIL too.

The western media outlets released a report early this year proving that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s daughter has established and run a field hospital only 20km to the border with Syria where ISIL and Nusra terrorists wounded in clashes with the Syrian government receive treatment.

The Syrian Air Force continued to bomb concentration centers of the ISIL in Lataminah today, which ended in destruction of several vehicles and military equipment.

The air raids have reportedly inflicted heavy losses on the Takfiri militants too.

Syrian Forces Hit Militants Supplying Route Hard near Border with Jordan

TEHRAN (FNA)- A key supplying route of the al-Nusra Front in the Southern province of Dara’a, bordering Jordan, was heavily stormed by the Syrian Army troops on Wednesday.

Two command centers of Nusra militants were destroyed in al-Abassiyeh and al-Arbaeen neighborhoods in Dara’a al-Balad in the Southern part of Dara’a city, which is considered a main passage for the infiltration of terrorists and weapons across the Syria-Jordan border.

On Tuesday, the Syrian Army engaged in heavy clashes with a group of terrorists at the border of Dara’a with Sweida and killed many of them.

A group of militants, who tried to infiltrate from al-Kark and Um Walad in Northern part of Dara’a into al-Aslahyia village in West of Sweida, were stormed by the Syrian soldiers, and suffered heavy death toll in the fighting area.
