First Lady Michelle Obama recently released a video, calling on landlords across the country to rent out vacant spaces to homeless veterans.
“Whenever our country has called, they’ve stepped up to serve,” Mrs. Obama said, “so when I hear that one of our veterans is homeless, I’m not just heartbroken. I’m outraged.”
The first lady commended cities like New Orleans and Houston for ending veterans homelessness. The city of Reno wants to be added to that list.
The VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System has partnered with the Reno Housing Authority to give local veterans a second chance. They can use the Veterans Homeless Outreach Center to learn about resources available to veterans in Reno. From there, the VA can refer them to the Reno Housing Authority to be placed in a local home.
