Pre-Super Bowl sales are typically a desirable time for consumers to buy TVs, as many retailers offer deals, and this year there are a few factors at work that could boost sales even more.
The National Retail Federation predicts 7.7% of Americans will purchase a new television to watch this year’s Feb. 7 game between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers, which is actually a decrease from last year’s 8.8% — but still amounts to sales of about 8.6 million televisions.
According to a survey that market-research company NPD Group did in December, 6% of households plan to buy a new TV before the Super Bowl; that number was slightly higher among millennials, at 10%.
The popularity of 4K televisions is partly driving the sales, said Brent Shelton, an online shopping expert at the deal-finding site .
