Veterans and non-veterans alike are welcome at the 5th annual Veterans Job Fair Friday, May 20 onboard the USS LST 393 Veterans Museum ship downtown Muskegon.
The Veterans Job Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the USS LST 393 Veterans Museum, at 560 Mart St. in Muskegon. The event is free and open to all job-seekers.
A total 61 businesses that are hiring will be on site to meet with job seekers and exchange information. In previous years, a few individuals have been hired on the spot. About 300-350 people show up each year at the event.
“Usually we get about a third veterans,” said organizer Rep. Holly Hughes, who helped to organize the event five years ago with veterans advocate Dave Eling. During the job fair, Eling and other advocates contact information from vets who need mortgage assistance or other help through federal programs.
Goodwill Industries of West Michigan Inc. will hold a couple of workshops prior to the event on resume writing, interview skills and navigating a job fair. The workshops will take place 10 a.m.- noon Wednesday, May 18, and 1 – 3 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at 271 East Apple Ave. Participants will work on their resumes and conduct mock interviews, and are asked to come prepared with an up-to-date work history.
