Much has changed in Chris White’s life since the Thanksgiving he spent in eastern Afghanistan six years ago, eating ham and turkey on a crisp fall day at Forward Operating Base Sharana.
Instead of coordinating battle missions and flying Apache helicopters, he now manages a patient safety program for the Harris Health System.
But making the transition from construction to the health industry – with stints in a war zone, a job in the energy industry and then a layoff – was not a route he originally expected to travel.
