Do you want to learn how to live a peaceful life? One of the most important steps you can take on the journey of wholehearted living is learning to love and respect yourself. This guide will help you and begin to live a more peaceful and loving life.

Regularly Check in with Your Emotions

Knowing how you are feeling is crucial for self-love. Taking the time to check in with your emotions will help you know when you are not appreciating yourself enough. If you are not used to regularly checking on your feelings, it may seem strange. The more you do it, though, the more insight you will receive.

Checking in with your emotions can be as simple as asking “What am I feeling right now?” and then honestly answering. Do this several times throughout the day, not just when something is bothering you. As you honestly answer this question, you will begin to recognize what you need.

Speak Kindly to Yourself

The words we say matter. Speaking to yourself negatively will take a negative toll on your mental health. Practicing patience will increase your confidence and self-love. This may look like making a mistake and saying “Oops” instead of “I’m such an idiot!”

Mirror work is a powerful method to practice speaking with kindness to yourself. Look at your reflection in the mirror and say phrases like “You are beautiful,” “You have worth,” and “You are special.” Admittedly it may feel inane at first, but as you look into your own eyes and speak with kindness, you will unlock love for yourself within your brain.

Move Your Body in a Joyful Way

Exercise pumps endorphins into your body, which can greatly affect your mood. However, if you hate running, you feel awkward dancing, or you get anxious when lifting weights, the practice of moving your body and exercising can become more of a method for punishment than a method of self-love.

Find an exercise that you love. It does not have to be the “hottest” way to lose weight or gain muscle. Just find something that you enjoy doing that gets your body moving. The more you move your body, the stronger your mind-body connection will be. Your mood will improve and you will learn to love your body and all that it does for you.

Practice Meditating or Visualizing

Meditation is for everyone! Meditation is a powerful way to clear your mind and make space for the things that matter most in your life. It can help you re-think the ways that you handle difficulty in your life. Meditation is also a wonderful way to take a few moments of quiet time in your day where you do not need to accomplish anything.

Visualization is similar to meditation, but it can often include more specific goals. Rather than focusing on your breathing and calming, visualization is more active. Visualization incorporates techniques found in meditation but also involves you picturing yourself achieving goals you want in your life. It is a powerful method for manifesting confidence and success.

If you are new to meditation and visualization, do not worry! There are plenty of free and easy resources for getting started, including guided meditations and visualizations where a narrator walks you through everything that you need to do in order to begin this process.

Practice Gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful tool for healing your life and introducing a greater sense of self-love. As you recognize the things for which you are grateful, you will feel less worried about the things you do not have or cannot do.

Start a gratitude journal to remind yourself every day of the blessings in your life. You can turn this experience into a collaboration to improve your relationships. Share your gratitude with your friends and loved ones. Encourage them to share with you. As you do this, you will come to appreciate yourself and your life with newfound strength.

Congratulations on beginning on the journey towards more self-love. As you seek a peaceful life, remember to treat yourself with kindness and patience. This increased power for self-love will change your life.
