GORDON DUFF: CUTTING THE DEFENSE BUDGET? USE A CHAINSAW!

cutdefenseTHIEVES AND LIARS USE THE DEFENSE BUDGET AS THEIR PERSONAL “PIGGYBANK”

Looking at the Bob Kagan article “No Time for Defense Cuts” howling about defense budget cuts was a joke.  Kagan, McCain’s advisor on continuing corruption and waste and CFR (Council on Foreign Relations) hack  has one answer to every question, throw  money at GOP insiders.

Hasn’t 8 years of that “gravy train” killed enough people?

The war in Iraq was never a war.  We simply screwed up and killed tons of people for no legal or legitimate reason.  Now it is finished.  Get over it.  Time for us to start putting the people on trial who built all those water treatment plants, orphanages, hospitals and sewers that don’t exist but were paid for, some twice.  Maybe Bush, Blair, Cheney, Rumsfeld and a few dozen others need to “lawyer up” or face some of that “rendition” they loved arranging for others.

I have driven around Iraq and seen the empty fields where we have spent billions building things that don’t exist.  When you hear constant talk about “waste and corruption,” what, exactly, do you think they mean?  What does it take to get attention here?

Iraq can take care of herself and work her own problems out.  She has a much more capable military force than we are being told.  I have seen them.  These are intelligent and capable people.  Hell, I actually like it there.  Leave and make them figure it out themselves.  We will save hundreds of billions of dollars doing so.  Oh, sorry, I forgot.  Spending is why we are really there.

What’s with us building an aircraft carrier named after our disgraced former president’s dad?  Park it or sell it to the Japanese.  We don’t need it.  With a third term “Bush the Lesser” might have built the USS Benedict Arnold or USS Richard Nixon.

Why in the hell did we spend billion after billion building “the green zone” in Baghdad?  Why is it called “the green zone?”  Who thought this up?  Now that we are leaving, as we knew we always would, why is this boondoggle and the vast endless billion dollar airbase we are leaving a few miles away around at all?

What were we thinking?  Were we trying to duplicate the palatial Westmoreland compound in Vietnam?  Does every warfront have to have a Disneyland?  Don’t answer that.

Time to stop whining and get on with “real” life, such as Bush and his cronies have left us.  This is not Vietnam, no matter how much we want it to be.  If 75% of the money spent on anything with “defense” tied to it stolen, perhaps we need to clear the decks and start again from the ground up.

Always remember, the Department of Defense owns 168 golf courses.  You would not imagine the other things they have for wasting money.  Let me take you through Germany, Italy or a dozen other countries and show you projects costing billions that you were never told about and that should never have existed.

We have two reasons, other than security, for putting fences and guards around military bases.

1.  Hiding how pitiful some of our facilities are and how bad living conditions are.

2.  Hiding the billion dollar boondoggles spent to coddle ‘fat cats.’

The Defense Department is trying to build, not just military capabilities to fight enemies that could never exist, but a world of its own filled with yacht basins, restaurants, hotels, deluxe airports and lots of VIP corporate jets.

I feel a painful need to mention Afghanistan.

We are currently supporting a government that doesn’t exist or really run anything and supporting a president who barely controls the area 5 miles around his own home.   Did I mention that President Karzai hates us and continually publicly demands us to leave?  Do we need to discuss his brother, the drug dealer?

We have real enemies there.  The Taliban is a hard lot of primitive and barbaric people.  However, they are hardly the Viet Cong.  They are mostly a pack of idiots.  However, our good friends in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, send these idiots billions of dollars.  With friends like these……….

Afghanistan is a hell hole with no economy, and no resources except opium.  What makes me think that, if they didn’t have opium, we might not be there?  Call this a conspiracy theory.

I can’t help coming back to the time when we trapped Osama bin Laden and President Bush ordered our troops to pull back and for warlords paid by bin Ladens supporters in Pakistan to take over.  If you miss this, hiding an elephant in your living room would be a cinch.

I keep thinking Bush, Carlyle Group, bin Laden, Saudi Arabia, 9/11, Blackwater, Haliburon and get only questions.

Our plan, as I see it, is to pound our enemy so badly, they will retreat into Pakistan, wait until we leave, then come back and take the country over again.

I loved that plan in Vietnam.

I will enjoy seeing it again, providing I live that long.

Watching Americans load themselves into helicopters and flee the roof of the embassy in Kabul will make great TV.  Fox News may already have worked out exclusive rights with the Taliban.

Watching our military stuck in the mid-20th century reliving peninsular campaigns, re: Inchon/Anzio landings, is amusing.

gduff_02Where do we get all these military geniuses?  Couldn’t they just stick to golf?
