New incentives with the VA San Diego Heath Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) program supports Veterans with resources and training that motivates and educates Veterans on living healthier lifestyles while managing their health.

“Evidence shows that healthy behaviors, such as being physically active and making wise food choices, contributes to the delay or prevention of many chronic health care conditions and diseases,” said Mary Kodiath, San Diego HPDP program manager.  “So, if we could prevent diabetes, heart disease, and strokes, wouldn’t you be interested?”

Patients interested in losing weight, eating healthier, and setting goals can check out the following solutions:

  • A new wellness group in the Oceanside VA clinic focuses on improved physical activity and eating wisely.  It is held every Thursday morning, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. in Conference Room B.
  • New workshops called “Take Charge of Your Health,” are available to Veterans at most of our locations (La Jolla, Oceanside, Mission Valley, and Chula Vista).  If interested call Mary Kodiath at (858) 552-8585, ext. 2395.  These workshops are a two and a half hour class once a week for 6 weeks.
  • We have a new Management of Diabetes Group program in Oceanside for patients and significant others.  If interested call Carol Madden at (858) 552-8585 x3551.
  • The new Telehealth MOVE! Program helps patients who would like to lose weight at home on their own schedule. Read about one of this program’s success stories here.
